vs Western United open now:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/08/15/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
A few similarities between the behind-closed-doors Adelaide and Brisbane matches:
Harry van der Saag got it for the Adelaide match, while Luke Ivanovic won it for his first-half performance against Brisbane. There have been 12 different winners across the 28 matches so far.
There is still a chance to vote for last weekendās loss vs Western Utd ā itāll be open until 7pm tonight:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/08/15/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
Winner for our final-round loss to Western United was Anthony Caceres - his third of the season. He joins Redmayne, Grant, Ninko and Baumjohann with 3 MOTMs this season.
Voting is open for last nightās semi-final win. Not many so far, so please get involved:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/08/26/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
And a quick note: The rescheduled ACL means that the current player of the season tally will include the entire 2020 ACL (as opposed to just up to the Rd of 16, as usual). I assume we might be allowed to submit a modified squad for the upcoming matches, but given that it should be largely similar to what we had initially, and the uncertainty about the start of next season, I think that makes sense (but happy to consider opposing views!).
Grand Final voting:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/08/30/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
(Semi-final open until Wednesday night too)
The semi-final was a close one, with points being spread around widely and the top 3 having 38, 33 and 32 respectively. In the end the MOTM was Anthony Caceres again ā his second consecutive win and fourth for the season.
Reminder that voting for the Grand Final is open until tomorrow (Sunday) night, and that with ACL (possibly) still to come, Player of the Season is still up for grabs.

There was an overwhelming winner for the Grand Final, as Rhyan Grant picked up more than twice as many votes as the next best, for his 4th MOTM of the season. There were plenty of remaining votes to go around though, and every starting player got at least one: this hadnāt happened since the 4-1 win over Melbourne in March.
Thanks to everyone who has voted. Stay tuned for the ACL voting which will count towards the 2019-20 Player of the Season.
Reminder that the upcoming ACL matches will be counted towards the 2019-20 Player of the Season, so keep an eye out for voting to open after tonightās game.
I havenāt forgotten about the prize draw I promised near the start of the season either, and Iāve finally decided on three prizes:
Every vote gets you an entry into the draw, which will happen around a week after our last ACL match.
ACL vs Shanghai SIPG:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/11/19/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
Voting for each match will be open for about a week
Only 10 votes so far would be great to get some more
Voting for the loss vs Jeonbuk is open:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/11/25/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
Thanks to everyone who voted for the SIPG game. If you havenāt, itāll stay open until about this time tomorrow night ā at the same link above
Result for the ACL loss to Shanghai SIPG:
Debutant Calem Nieuwenhof got points from all 19 voters to get the MOTM in his first appearance for Sydney FC. Heās the 9th player to win on debut for the club, after Vedran, ADP, Ognenovski, Heward-Belle, Danny De Silva, Alfie, Joel King and Reza.
Still some time to vote for the Jeonbuk game, if you havenāt already:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/11/25/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
Voting for the win over SIPG is open now:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/12/02/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
(vs Jeonbuk is also there, and will stay open until ~11pm tonight)
If I give Barbarouses -1, can I give The Hoff 7?
The result for the loss vs Jeonbuk: New boy Calem Nieuwenhof has done it again. This time he only got points from 13 of the 14 voters, but it makes him the third player in SFCU history to win MOTM in his first two appearances for the club, after Alessandro Del Piero (who won it in his 3rd as well) and Sasa Ognenovski.
If youāve got a bit of time waiting for the Yokohama match to start, why not think back on good times and put in some votes for the win over SIPG:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/12/02/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
Forgot to mention ā with results from two matches still pending, amazingly the Player of the Season is still not confirmed, so every vote is important.
Here it is, the last one of the 2019ā20 season. Last chance to get more entries in the prize draw.
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/12/04/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
Result for the big win over Shanghai SIPG:
Luke Brattan made an impression on his return, earning MOTM despite coming off at half-time. Itās his 8th MOTM win for the season, double the next best.
Last chance to have your say in the 2019ā20 season, with voting for the Yokohama draw closing tomorrow night:
https://www.sfcu.com.au/2020/12/04/player-of-the-season-2019-20/
With the seasonās voting ending tomorrow night when it closes for the Yokohama game, I thought Iād clarify the details for the prize draw. As a reminder, here are the prizes:
Obviously the draw isnāt happening along with the SFCU party as originally planned, so Iāll just do it on my computer when I get the chance some time next week.
Including the second SIPG game, weāve had 86 different* voters submit 750 votes across the 34 matches. I can only tag 10 users per post, so the next few posts after this will list how many virtual tickets each person has (plus 1 if you have voted or will vote in the Yokohama game).
* There seems to be a little disconnect between SFCU main page & forum usernames, which is why some of the names arenāt linked, but thereās also the possibility that a person is listed multiple times under different usernames. Iāve already fixed up a few that I know of, but if this applies to you, please let me know.
For the sake of transparency, here is the R code Iāll be using for the draw:
# Set the random seed (nothing suss)
# dateofdraw <- xxxxxxxxx
# twitter_number <- xxxx
# set.seed(dateofdraw + twitter_number)
winners <- sample(voter_summary$voter, size = 3, replace = FALSE,
prob = voter_summary$votes)
winners
where voter_summary
is basically the list in the posts below, containing the voterās name ($voter
) and the number of votes theyāve submitted ($votes
). And just to ensure itās all above board, Iāll set the seed for the random number generator based on whatever date I end up doing it plus a number that will be determined by a Twitter poll, so no one person (not even me) will be able to determine what it will be in advance.
The sample
bit is drawing 3 names without replacement, meaning that you can only win one prize, but the draws are weighted so you still have a better chance with more tickets. So itās like drawing 1st prize and then removing all of those personās remaining tickets from the hat before drawing 2nd prize, and so on.
Because the prizes are of about the same value, whoever is drawn 1st will get their pick of the bunch, 2nd place will get to choose out of the remaining two prizes, and 3rd place gets whatever is left.
Thanks as always everyone who has voted, and if you havenāt already, please vote for the final Yokohama game to get one last extra shot at the extremely fun raffle draw!
