A-League Men - Round 25 - 2022-23 Discussion

It doesn’t answer the question why he was so injury prone with us, yet Western Suburbs could get a full season out of him.

The only thing I can think of that triggered them to chant this was the NPL derby fixture that was played concurrently on Saturday night, and the result was shown or made known to the crowd.

Or they’re just sad fucks who are defined by our existence.

Combination of bad luck and bad management. 🤷🏽

I doubt they care that much about the NPL. The only time they seemed to care was when they thought we’d banner them from attending their game against us at Lambert in the NPL2 season both our sides were in (You know, before we were promoted on merit, and they stayed back until the top div expanded by, what, 4 teams?), even though that was an NPL decision and applied to us for the return fixture too.

Oh, no, if Adelaide win we’re in prime position to play Wanderers in finals, away, and the boycott ads an extra layer. However, maybe we’ll lose to Roar and go behind the Nix again. Think positive, you know?

Very high chance we will play the Wanderers now, unless Adelaide really do a hard crash in the last two rounds and fall behind both the Wanderers and the Mariners. I don’t see us finishing below fifth, honestly.

Yeah, but Wanderers might still finish 3rd, depending on Adelaide’s result today and their result against the Mariners.

So basically it comes down to…

If things don’t work out:

  • he’s willing to sign a minimum-wage contract as a scholarship player for the 2022-23 season, and the impact on our competitiveness is as negligible as possible.

If things do work out:

  • we have an A-League quality starter willing to play for minimum-wage in 2022-23.
  • he is eligible for Homegrown Player Allowance in 2023-24 and 2024-25, where we can pay him any amount of money outside the cap.
  • he is eligible for the Loyalty Player Allowance thereafter.
  • he probably earns us a transfer fee along the way.

In footballing terms, we know what we had. Nobody’s surprised to see him have a season like this when fit.

The issue is surely medical, but given how skewed the above-mentioned risks/rewards are, it makes absolutely no sense to let him walk unless there was a very strong degree of certainty that he’s physically done.

And if we’ve made that call on a player who went across town, immediately stepped healthily into NPL2 and then directly into a perfect season injury-wise, then I think it’s reasonable to question the quality of that advice.

He probably knew that, with Brattan back again, he (the Hof) would never start ahead of Retre. And Rudan whispered in his ear that he had a future at WSW. That Hof has started ahead of a fit Bozanic suggests that Rudan can see more in the lad than Corica was able to.

FWIW, I am amazed how patient Maxi B has been given Corica’s clear lack of faith in him for about 1.5 seasons and that Caceres’ role as first-choice AM was always a given, even when we had Ninko fit and in form. BTW, nice to see the Hof at the women’s preliminary final yesterday,

Broxham being mic’ed up during warm up is so cringy… he’s panting as he’s warming up and being interviewed at the same time lol

It just shows how fucking ludicrous the concept of warm-up interviews are. Absolutely fucking absurd beyond belief.

We’ve covered this before. Bozanic was injured at the start of the season which gave Hof his chance.

He’s on a scholarship deal there, 100% only signed as depth, but then took his chance when it came and has earned the continuing starting spot. Though yes, even Blind Freddy could’ve seen he was up to it when called upon.

This is some game. End to end.

Imagine if Wanderers do stay third but we slip back to 6th. Can’t avoid the inevitable. :sob:

Don’t get me wrong, if we end their finals hopes it would be both funny and redemptive given the last derby, but I don’t even want to deal with another derby or the chance of losing.

Zimerino does it again. 3-3!

TAGGART!!! HOLY SHIT!

Wow. What a game.

OH
MY
GOD

Just crazy, what a finish, especially for a game they had to win to stay alive. They’re still unlikely to make the 6 but i’m glad the Perth fans got that finish.
