ACL2 MD2 - Kaya FC vs Sydney FC - 3/10/24

Kaya lost 3-0 to Sanfrecce in their previous match which is hard to get a read on as Sanfrecce should be topping this group.

They’re actually in their post season, having finished their actual season in July, so I’m going to assume that while they’ll be pretty well gelled with each other, there might be some rust there.

This is the club we played in that Champions League playoff game a couple years back a d also ran out comfortable 5-0 winners at Kograh.

I overheard on a podcast that their home ground isn’t suitable for Continental matches. Thus they play Champions League at a neutral venue, which is apparently a artificial turf pitch

Perhaps go easy with Doooglas in this match, just in case.

Kaya scored goals for fun when they won their league, with our somewhat shaky back we may concede this time around.

But I’m hoping/expecting 3+ goals from us.

More an indication of the quality of the Fillipino League, rather than Kaya’s quality.

Nonetheless, playing in the Fillipino conditions, we shouldn’t underestimate them.

Seems to be artifical turf

Had it not been so soon, I would have seriously considered going.

Yep as posted in the MD1 thread artificial turf.
Bulls played there last year against another distant team with an abysmal crowd.

8pm AEST kickoff.

Pretty reasonable.

They were worse than Eastern was the other night from memory.

I don’t think we’ll be beaten by them because they’re better than us, I just worry how we’ll cope on an artificial pitch in a sauna.

Predictions for tonight? I’d be hoping as we ramp up to the season we’re starting to look sharper, plus our players should have had more time to gel together in training, so I’m fairly optimistic.

I’m also curious to see Popovic starting at CB as that’s probably the main missing piece from our previous game.

I doubt Talay’s game plan is going to change at all, so in the hot and humid conditions, and on a synthetic pitch that we’re not so used to, it will be even more important than usual to get early goals so we can conserve energy later. If we’re not ahead at half time, it will be really difficult.

I predict that we’ll get those early goals and go on to a relatively comfortable 3-1 win.

Going off the optimism of last round I expect a crushing return to reality with a 1-0 loss despite having more chances

Was about to post something similar. But I still think we have enough quality to win, maybe a 1-0 win but we make it look hard.

As others have said it’s so different over there with the pitch and weather, it’s like playing on another planet. Need to be careful with injuries.

Shit 1-0 win in rough conditions I think. Klimala off the mark

Feels like a genuine pre season match, in hot conditions on a synthetic surface…

Comfortable training run… 3 or 4 nil to the good guys

Tonight!

Operation get the kids to bed asleep by 7:45.

Ahhh feck it. They’ll watch it with me. The team in Blue can be “Bluey”. We’re watching “Bluey” tonight.

I don’t think he’ll risk Lolley and Costa on a synthetic pitch.

I reckon 2 out of Kucharski, Quintal and Segacic will start.

Seems like all the foreigners travelled.

Hopefully, get the game done within the first 45 and then let the younger boys have a run out.

Can’t wait for a 1-1 draw!
