ACL2 SF - Sydney FC vs Lion City Sailors - 16/4/25

We played well just couldn’t get the final pass right or shot. The other team was basically in their 6 yard box the whole game. To add to the frustration we scored 2 offside goals.

I was fine with the general theory of it knowing we would have 70% possession, the problem was over and over again in the first half, JCP would call him back to mark the #17 so that the 3 peanuts at CB could mark the #9 who was barely moving. Every time we’d win the ball, instead of being able to transition forward quickly to lolley isolated against the fullback, we’d have to pass around slowly while we waited for him to get forward.

Then when it started to work in the 2nd half, Costa decided to go stand there as well and rather than link up with each other, just crowded each other out.

Just a baffling 180 minutes of tactics and decisions over the 2 legs.

Some good money about be coming Macarthur’s way for Adamson too. Saw a UK based article saying QPR and another London based club looking to purchase.

Meanwhile we kept ZDJ who was meant to be sold on for good coin after “developing”… in two years he’ll be in the NPL

Lucky our system didn’t need pacey fullbacks!

On several occasions the movement was there from Segacic and Klimala but the ball was held up for extra touches by Sena or Caceres. As for the tactics affecting the ultimate result, … we had the ball in the back of the net THREE times only for a player to be offside on two occasions. Whilst I do not necessarily agree with those tactics, the players have to take some responsibility also. The result / tactics in the away game was where the whole thing was lost…in my opinion, we should have gone into that game with the aim of a nil all draw

Uffy is really being the odd man out with his approach. I notice when their starting forwards aren’t delivering the teams doing better than us above us on the A League table tend to make a change, often a triple change, usually at the 60th minute at the latest.

The press conference is on the a leagues app but can’t find it on YouTube.

The biggest thing for me is the disappointment in what I suspect will be a 1 in a 100 chance to win the ACL2.

  • relatively weak Chinese and Korean teams
  • a Japanese team knocked out in bizarre circumstances
  • Saudi team getting bundled out in 5min of mayhem
  • hosting home final

Aus teams should get out of the group stage but getting to the final is not easy.

Anyhow, go Lion City Sailors in the final… it’s a 1 in 500 chance for a Singapore team.

He was asked about Segga and he said something along the lines of “conversations are ongoing”

Yeah this really we missed a superb chance to not only host the final but potentially win it. All credit to Lion City though they did what they had to, were the better team and hopefully for them they go on and win it. Can’t be many teams who win a cup after a 6-1 loss

Surprised Lolley was so upset after the game.

Good to see how passionate he is about the team

Yeah, hope they win and send Valere Germain a spare medal.

Lolley is one of our best because not only did he come here, fall in love with Bondi (as most pommiess do), not fall in love with our city (,as most pommies do, at least the eastern half) but I think he genuinely loves the football club.

The bloke gives 110% every game, even when he’s overplayed, even when he’s spent and there’s no energy left in the tank. Whilst most of us on this forum can see the energy, the passion he brings on the field, I still feel like he’s an underrated member of this team. It would not surprise me if he wants to finish his career here, and he’s still got a few more years at least left in the tank.

I honestly don’t think he’ll ever want to retire anywhere other than here, and its great to see the emotion and passion displayed by him.

This was another frustration of mine with Uffie, by not managing Lolley’s minutes he could cost us a future season by running him into the ground for nothing
