ALM Squad Speculation Thread 2024/25 (Part 2)

I thought he was signed on a one-and-a-half season deal but it seems the club actually confirmed it was only until the end of the season.

Sotirio would go up in my estimation if he wore that shirt to the recent NT camp.

I dunno, a front line relying on Lolley or Kucharski to score goals is going to be a difficult one for sure. Wood did barely anything for Perth so I daresay that was almost a waste of a loan period. If we were going to drop someone, I’d be more interested in losing one of our foreign midfielders as we’re stacked there and keep a foreign striker plus a foreign defender. Also desperately need a keeper that doesn’t let in goals on the near post.

Thats if we’re moving back to a 4-3-3. If we’re sticking with this 3-4-2-1, im not sure if Talbot has enough going forward to be a wing back. I haven’t watched him enough this year so maybe he does.

If we go back to a 4-3-3, then yes, he should be at the top of the list as far as available local options go.

That sucks. All the best Paddy.

Now we’re talking, the thought of him & Douglas taking the p*** out of defences could fill me with the sort of anticipation I havn’t felt since the announcement of Mr Carney. He’s getting paid too much of a shitload at Mohun anyway surely so this will just have to be a fantasy, my offseason coping mechanism.

Well the current geopolitical situation could result in some foreigner players leaving India?

I’m not sure that 3-4-2-1 is something we’re particularly wedded to. It was a fairly late introduction, we don’t have the flexibility to make major squad modifications to better align to it, and I’m sure that Talay isn’t particularly thrilled with its results.

From my perspective, I think our planning priorities should be:

  1. Getting the personnel right to tighten things up at the back.
  2. Finding how to most effectively get the most out of our best players - Lolley, Costa, CƔceres, Sena.

The 3-4-2-1 doesn’t achieve this, and even fitting all four into that XI is an awkward fit for at least 2, if not 3, of those 4.

The 4-2-3-1 on the other hand gives Costa, CƔceres and Sena their ideal roles (including a pure DM alongside to Sena), with only Lolley pushed out of position.

Part of the tension is that Lolley and Costa on the same XI hasn’t been great for Lolley’s output, and from all of the different permutations throughout the season I think that Lolley at CF and Costa at RW for those few games in January looked like our most effective deployment for the two of them.

Gotta be Joel ā€œracial slurā€ Griffiths innit?

Griffiths is a fuckwit, but he improved our frontline immensely when he joined, runs and movement we hadn’t seen for yonks. A split screen of him vs Mitch Austin would be hilarious, but I digress.

Ian Tallguy was only a trialist, so excluding wingers for worst CF I’d have to nominate Big Ben Vidaic and Luka Stickman Glavas.

GlavaÅ” was just an ACL ā€œmaking up the numbersā€ signing right? Does that count? Should we count strikers who never played?

Should there be a minimum appearance count?

Well if the rumours are to be believed, you wont have to worry about fitting Caceres into the team anymore. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I agree that I’d definitely rather move back to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3, but if we ain’t. Well. Recruitment priorities might change. A specialist RWB becomes an absolute MUST, cannot miss, cannot fuck this up signing. Ideally you’d get a LWB too but we have King and JCP signed up for next season, soooo can’t fucking do much about that. Wingbacks are so damn important in that formation, we can’t cheap out on it.

Surely it is Patrick Roberto Daniel da Silva.

That guy looked like he had never seen a football pitch before.

Mohun have been given a transfer embargo by FIFA. Something dodgy in Cummings’s transfer from CCM. Apparently they are letting him go anyway.

Just like Fabio.

Rumour: Lolley no longer trying to force a move to Perth after Western Bears being announced.

His missus is Sydney based so not sure how keen he really is to go

The vote must go to Kruno ā€œDouble Denimā€ Lovrek. Set himself a target of scoring ten goals in his debut season. He fell ten short.

Kruno was a 10 / AM?

He had a small problem. Del Piero was in front of him in the pecking order.
