you take that back!

Patrick was so good that Melby shamelessly ripped his Buffalo Soldier tune.

The search for our next manager is over. Finally someone that wil bring some class to our club:

Looks like Arnold is off our coaching requirement list

Would he consider a bit of bling with that?, we have a reputation to uphold.

So does this look right for the current state of play - as per public info?

  • Listed as 4/3/3 as that’s what we mostly played through the season
  • Kamijo 1st XI over Hollman as was preferred in the last portion of the season
  • Included only youth who have played or were ā€œpromotedā€ to the first team (that I knew of anyway).

We don’t have a single senior #9 contracted past June 30.
HDM going into next season you have to assume is a massive risk.
The centre-half situation isn’t good.
The full-back situation isn’t good.
If Caceres isn’t re-signed… it’s a massive loss. Work rate, quality, leadership. A huge hole to fill.

That’s a lot of issues to resolve in a single off season.

Graham Arnold becomes Iraq coach

We get Pat Wood back next season, which reinforces our need to find a starting striker.

The thing is they wont be resolved. We need to find:

CB who will start and lead the line, someone with experience and leadership skills
GK minimum starting, but someone that has a wealth of experience to sort out the back line
CM a decent starter, doesn’t have to be world breaking
CF a decent starter, doesn’t have to be world breaking

On top of that, I dare say we need a new left and right back, unless King somehow manages to sort his shit out. Then throw in we’ll need a new attacking mid that will cover once we lose Sega who was a huge impact for us.

Now the biggest problem, is that we only have a single foreign spot. So whoever we go with, we’re 100% going to be screwed as there really isn’t that many Aussie players available for signing. Of the potential options:

Cameron Burgess (linked with Valencia)
Yengi (maybe?)
Luongo (doesn’t really solve our holding mid problem)
Duke (could be worse if you ignore the taint)
Antonis (not exactly amazing…)

There really isn’t that many players apart from some of the dregs that are being released by ALM clubs. Throw in the fact that there’s also no real knowledge on who the coach is, which causes even bigger problems if you consider who we have off contract that should be signed asap…

I’d be surprised if we went for a LB. If we have proper stability in goal, the centre of defense and maybe the base of midfield as you have suggested, we should get more out of King or JCP than in this season’s absolute mess.

Always the possibility that the first one goes some way to fixing the second.

The LB would be a luxury, but then Grant isn’t getting any younger at RB. Playing five at the back allows the wingbacks to be better situated with less stress and being covered, but if we do that, we need probably an extra 2 defenders then. I will agree that LB, is the least of our defensive worries.

I honestly have no faith. There’s no point in having a rock solid defence if a shit, lucky shot gets through the keeper. The amount of times HDM made stupid mistakes or got beaten on the near post is actually very disappointing. He’s already old enough that I can’t see him getting any better, baring some miraculous change in coaches that would probably have to be reported to the Vatican as a mirracle.

If we’re going for a RB (which is not as big a priority as at least two other positions) then I’d be going for Gabriel Cleur. He’s coming off contract.

I miss-read Transfermarkt (lists 2 end of contracts - one for the loan and one for the parent club)

Dollan Warren awards are now live for voting. Not sure how Nishan Velupillay is in the running for Young Footballer of the Year at 24, yet somehow Sega at 20 isn’t an option despite winning the Golden Boot???

Cleur better be hitting the gym already, given the amount of hot dogs Arzani sent him for on Saturday night.
