ALM Squad Speculation Thread 2024/25 (Part 2)

That is going to rustle some jimmies out west.

Would anyone in the know rate his chances of minutes next year? Or are we just hyping him up because we got him from wanderers

You could say they might be feeling a little lonely out west

Could it please be both.

He’s only played 30 minutes for the Wanderers NPL team and only just turned 16. Maybe time in the cup is what you’d expect to see this season all going well.

A bit strange considering I assume Kamijo came over around the same age and no fuss was made.

Maybe we get to see him against Manly on Sunday?

We have never had a child prodigy really boom across the A-League. Adelaide seem to have had a few, but our young lads seem to do some good work closer to the end of their teens rather than this younger age.

Good interview, like the cut of his jib and the restrained expectations, happy to take time to settle into the NPL side etc.

I assume it’s a first team deal because they wouldn’t spruik it like this if it was academy / NPL only. So on one hand hate that we’re again lobbing a deal at an unproven kid like we did with Amanatidis, Glasson and ZdJ. On the other hand, cult hero!

Assuming NPL.

No way we’d give a 1st team full pay contract to a kid who just a month a go turned 16.

Surely , i mean c’mon
 surely
hmm.

Hes got a professional contract. Not sure what that means though

I hope they bring on AA against the Jets.

Who knows but we did do the same with the 3 I mentioned.

How the cap functions is pretty vague these days, but the club have recently made distinctions in these releases as to whether they’re scholarship deals or not. They also made a point of stating “professional contract” for a few that were previously on scholarship deals and then extended (Gus was one, for sure).

Which is what we should be doing with as many of our best prospects on the cusp of first team football as possible, so we end up with less Seggy situations.

Kamijo’s a good start.

Not bad to have a bit of depth there and a promising young player for a few years from now who we can work into the squad gradually. I assume he’d be on roughly minimum wage at this point so the risk is pretty low.

Callum Talbot is not extending his City contract and now a free agent.

Definitely need other positions more (CB, DM?, CF etc) but if we’re looking to Grant more as CB, he could cover the fullback positions.

I mentioned this earlier, I like the idea
JCP Grant Grant Squid

He was good at left back with us. And he’s probably not going to play in front of Atkinson at city

I really like the idea of bringing Talbot back if we’re going back to a back 4. Dont know how he’d go as a RWB in the new system though.

no problem building the squad on the assumption that talay will be gone midseason and we return to a back 4

I wouldn’t assume we’ve switched to a back 3/5.

Everything they’ve said so far has been along the lines of - Talay has been building and that takes time. That usually wouldn’t involve randomly switching to a completely different tactical plan midway through that development.

If we do start next season with a back 3/5 it will be simple proof that the late and post season talk is just hot air.
