ALM Squad Speculation Thread 2024/25 (Part 2)

That guy needs a steak, suppose he could tuck into one while Quintal is skinning blokes down our left hand side.

I mean, the thread does say ā€œspeculationā€ā€¦

Messi anyone?

Messi has shown a desire to play in a more competitive league with the Saudi League very interested.

This seems contradictory considering his current team didn’t even win their league!

Well, La Liga was a very competitive league, wasn’t it?

3 weeks until he scores on debut. :sob:

Yeah, this club is a shambles. Would rather go to a team that doesn’t have the financial ability to play people on time, and looks uncertain to last another 12 months.

A hat trick in a 3-0 win for western

Alternatively (more probably?) no one else wanted him, he had to take the last resort and we’re vindicated for not chasing him.

And also they have just sold their first choice striker who seemed to make pretty good progress under their coach

Yeah I reckon he’s a damn good replacement for Botic for them, and if they aren’t likely to go get a quality foreign 9 like Prijovic or Ibusuki in the current climate then he’s going to get loads more minutes (which he deserves). Good move for both, provided he gets paid on time.

I feel like working under John Aloisi is an attractive proposition for a young striker.

Dont they have a transfer embargo?

I think they cant pay for players, free transfers are ok

Only stops them from spending money buying players.

Free agents/loans are exempt. Otherwise the moment a club is under a transfer embargo, most clubs would struggle to fill an XI after a while.

Don’t blame him. Hope he does well.

It was a registration ban I thought. Whether a transfer fee has been paid shouldn’t be relevant.

As is my understanding, there’s one of four things that have occurred here:

  1. Western United have paid off their debts in full, with the ban lifted (which FIFA many not have updated yet)
  2. Western United are about to pay off their debts and have signed Jayden in preparation
  3. Western United signed Jayden earlier before the ban was in place (it was in effect in March)
  4. Jayden has royally screwed up and not realised he’s signed a contract with a club that isn’t allowed to play him in games.
