Looked earlier at bus times for my area, they weren’t starting until after 6am. Now there are a bunch of 5am options. Looking forward to most of them being cancelled, much like during the regular working week.

Their pun game has nothing on SFCU
I saw a picture on twitter of the TV at tumbalong.
It did not look promising…
Grandma’s Panasonic with the wood veneer?
Yeah, and the NSW gov is in charge, not the council. Which is why I always find it funny when people say everybody in greater Sydney should vote for the City of Sydney government. All major sites in the council, the state government controls.
+1. I hope the FFA have been playing it coy, like “no worries Arnie, we’ll sit down after it’s over” and now they can just hand him the pen and paper like it was the plan all along.
I know he doesn’t give a toss about the haters and social media trolls, but public sentiment feeds the media / clickbait narrative and so now would be a great time to capitalise on all the positive vibes and lock him in for another 4 years. The foundation is there to build upon and I don’t see Arnie having a fucking sook like Ange did and turning them down if the offer is there, the NT’s fortunes are too important to him.
Ripping it up and starting again now would be madness.
My only issue with this is that I’d take him back SFC in a heartbeat.
Talay is probs going to the NZNT so that’s a no go too.
Listen, Football Australia might not thank me but get the contract out, put it on the table. Let him sign it. Let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there, given what he’s done since he’s come in. Arnie’s at the wheel, man. He’s doing it. He’s doing his thing. The Socceroos are back!
Sign him up, but there’s no way he won’t have a multitude of offers after today.
For sure, but… And I know this might be niaive… I think he genuinely loves coaching the Socceroos.
Give him a WC cycle without the unknown quantity that a pandemic brings and all the shit challenges to come with it.
All the haters can absolutely do one.
One big thing that this run hopefully achieves is removing the weight of 2006 off the backs of current and future generations.
For too long the dominant narrative has been that we had this one amazing Golden Generation with all these players in Europe, who achieved what they did, and we’ll never get close to that again.
Just a hopelessness that we don’t really belong on the international stage. Even when we won the Asian Cup, it’s so readily dismissed - home tournament, it was all Ange, Asia sucks because it isn’t Europe.
Hopefully this run, and Asia’s run in this tournament, recasts things a little.
We qualified third in our group, sure. Guess what first and second in our group did? They defeated Argentina, Spain and Germany at the World Cup - eliminating Germany in the group stage.
We qualified ahead of the 5th-best team in South America to get here. We beat the 8th-highest ranked European team and the 3rd-highest ranked African team to get out of our group. We had Leo Messi celebrating a last-minute save to beat us.
This was a real achievement, from a significantly different generation (only 3 of this 26 were involved back then) to the one which won Asian Cup 2015 which itself was a real achievment, from a significantly different generation to the Golden Generation in 2006.
It’s not a one-off generation. We regularly compete and do reasonably against strong opponents in AFC who are real proper footballing nations.
We’ll never be at the top of the pyramid, but we genuinely deserve a real credible place in world football. We have a right to be proud of our football.
We. Are. Good. Enough.
Hopefully this starts getting through to people, here and overseas.
I think if he gets a good opportunity OS, he should take it. You should usually take your moves at a peak, and this may be the highest his stock is ever at. He’s not as young as Ange, and this could be his only chance. Otherwise, trying for another cycle wouldn’t be a bad thing with the emerging talent and given his ability to galvanise a squad.
Posted most of this on the match thread but it belongs more here.
The exciting thing for this team is that we had a young squad and a lot this squad can form the core of 2026 where many will be close to their prime. This surely has to be tempting to Arnie to stick around and continue to build. He managed some of these players at the Olyroos and now this world cup so the temptation to go one more and try for one better must be strong.
I know players dont always stay on the upward trend/ reach the potential but in 4 years time we could have from this team from this squad- with their age in 2026
Ryan (34)
Atkinson (27) Souttar (28) Rowles (28) King (26)
McGree (28) Hrustic (30) Irvine (33)
Mabil (31) Cummins (31) Kuol (22)
Bench: Degenek (32) Deng (29) Devlin (28) Baccus (28) Tilio (25)
Besides the backup keepers the only ones potentially too old (but could still make it) would be Behich (35) Mooy (36) Leckie (35) Duke (35) Goodwin (34) Wright (34).
Bring in players on the fringes who didnt make the final team like Strain (29) Metcalfe (27) Genreau (27) Francois (26) Stensness (27) and theres a lot of hope and potential and thats even without considering players who haven’t made a recent Socceroos squad. Fullbacks and forwards seem to be the spots we’d need to develop.
On the flip side, as said, Arnie’s stock is as high as it’ll ever be now. He’s outdone any of the disappointments in his stints in Asian Cups. Hes a national hero. Might be the perfect time for the next challenge. Its really up to him at this point- if he wants to stick around Im sure the FA would have a contract ready.
If he does go it’ll open up the big debate of a replacement.
It might be harsh, but I’d be looking to phase out Mooy/Behich etc for the AC, but definitely WC.
Asian Cup would probably be too soon. I’d say the next WC qualification cycle will be a good opportunity to do that. Behich has been superb and still has it. Mooy probably had one good game out of four and has become far too limited in his role and impact. We really need a ball player, though. Hrustic has to do more, and Goodwin is not a long-term option, even if his crossing and set-piece delivery are the best of any Australian at the moment.
Adam Peacock to go first.
They are, but I don’t think he hit a decent corner or free kick all tournament. Best ones came from Mooy and the only one that found Souttar’s head was floated in from McGree.
Is it a coincidence that this resurgence is aligned with an influx of Australians to Scottish football and the discovery of Scottish born players with Australian heritage? Even if it isn’t I’m happy to see it happen.
Maybe despite that
