I can’t see him returning to SFC, there’s really not much more for him to achieve with this club.
I recon the thing that could lure him away from the Socceroos would be if NAC Breda came knocking. He mentioned that he’d love to coach there, and there would be the challenge of gaining promotion and working their way to the top of the Eredivisie.
Strange to think all of our goal scorers at this tournament were born in 1991. I highly doubt we’ll be taking Mooy or Behich, even the scorers, but you have to think there will be a play for at lest one of the three from a petro-league or India on big money, if not somewhere in Europe or East Asia, so maybe they will push on.
The best thing to come out of this World Cup for me is the assurance that we don’t need an overseas coach to helm the Socceroos anymore.
Arnold got this team playing well above their individual stations because he understood them and how to motivate them. He understands the Australian psyche and the Australian sports psyche. It’s what we’ve been calling for Australian teams to play like forever.
Our Australian coaches are good enough tactically now to compete on the world stage. And more are coming through all the time. No team has ever won the World Cup with a foreign coach. We don’t need to go down that path anymore.
I think Arnie is ahead of the curve, in terms of his man management stuff. I suspect that’s what made the difference, this World Cup.
Honestly, the limitations of our squad put restrictions on what tactics were viable. Arnie took what we had and did what was possible. That’s absolutely commendable.
But if we’re going to progress, we need to develop better players. And when we have better players we’ll need to be more tactically astute.
Recognized a fellow little guy I guess. Shame Cammy couldn’t quite work his magic on Arnie in the same way. Still, no way he gets that shirt if he spends 90 minutes kicking Messi.
