Did look like Fowler dropped deeper and it became a more functional 4-3-3 when Freier and Wheeler came on, odd to take Gorry off when still only 1-0 though. But that only lasted 15 minutes during which we conceded #’s 2 & 3, then it all went to shit again when the system reverted, this time with Heyman and EvE up top and Fowler shunted to RM. You might play champagne football against dross with that setup but no way you’re getting a result against a top 5 nation.

Seems pretty clear to me that they’ve started believing their own press and think they really are world beaters. Understandable, given the last 3-4 years but the squad management and leaders need to get a handle on it.
They won’t win a medal and the idea that their TV rights are worth $200m is deuisional.
Don’t get me wrong, I like them and will support them but there’s a lack of pragmatic assessment of their capabilities that’s disappointing.
Agree with almost everything but this - the Socceroo and Matildas are both getting great crowds and ratings, so it might be plausible that they shake out this quantum across a 4yr cycle.
