Our goal difference is an issue if we lose to the US, unless say Canada have a big win.

I wouldn’t completely rule out Colombia getting a point out of Canada as well
Bloody hell.
The first two Zambian goals were a bit special.
Funniest moment though was in the Australian commentary where Catleys free kick was talked up for some reason!
I needed to blink my eyes a few times to make sure I wasn’t watching a game of FM instead. Some of those defensive “efforts” …
I can’t think of a better example of a group not getting anywhere near the sum of their parts.
Our backline all play for some of the biggest clubs in the world, yet they look like they’re playing on ice.
Been smelling their own farts since the World Cup rather than trying to improve.
It’s our early phases of possession. The way they’re set up puts huge pressure on the back line.
Ante Jukic hit the nail on the head on twitter:
In a bit of defence for them, weren’t a big portion of the team pretty much playing parttime 4 years ago or so? It’s a huge shift in mentality, culture and just life in general when you’re struggling on two jobs to pay for life, then suddenly being signed for some of the biggest clubs in the world. The Matilda’s have gone from a fully amateur team to fully professional in fairly small space of time. That culture shift is big and telling when you had a previous coach fired for trying to instil a professional culture
And the Zambians? What’s their story?
25 metre gaping hole where a midfield should be (or the backline pushed up into it). Not sure what the fuck is supposed to happen there to be honest. Other than trying to overload short and then hit long out of that back line?
I dont watch every single game - but under Gustavsson have we ever looked coherently good (game plan good not just a couple of players on form) for more than 30 minutes in a game?
Maybe I’m being unfair or just dont understand the game well enough but I don’t see a great influence from management.
4 years is a long fucking time.
I just watched the second half highlights.
That was painful to watch. I’ve seen 5 year olds with more composure on a football team.
I’ve seen a stronger defense by Ivan Milat. Was an atrocious game.
The attack has also suffered by being built around the main goalscorer (Kerr) rather than the playmaker/s, which seems like an elementary error to make when you’re talking about professional teams. Little things like that go a long way to stymying the team’s potential.
With the rapid development of the women’s game in Europe, we’re going to see young, talented women leave our shores much earlier, like Fowler has, and improving their tactical understanding from a much earlier age than the female Golden Generation has. That will help the Matildas more than having raw talent.
Another important step will be to show Tony G the door sooner rather than later, and get someone who has advanced tactical understanding of the game, doesn’t fuck around willy-nilly in non-tournament games, knows how to rotate a squad, and doesn’t just rely on good vibes to get the job done.
It seems set pieces are an issue.
Who’s fault is that? I know it’s a team effort from staff, but … but… final decisions etc.
If they want the gravy train to continue, they need to take some of that extra 25m a year that the Matildas have earned them and spend it on a serious, big time coach
Sadly, I think the problem still lies at the junior levels and there are so many things wrong. Even throwing big money at the Junior Matildas would only benefit a select few kids. A big time coach to teach them to play intelligent football may have worked a few years back when the majority of the team were locally based. But now the women face the same problem with the men, in that they are so dispersed that they only get together shortly before an event.
you delete that before someone from the FA sees it!!!
