I like how the Shots on goal chart works for the Matildas even without colours.
Anyway it’s been a hell of a ride but the advantages from a strong generation of players (not using the “G” word), home WC and with being relatively early into the woso boom is a confluence that has run out of puff and they’re ending up at similar stature in world football to the Socceroos. Maybe slightly better. But at least the men’s team, for all their insipid sterility are still able to avoid a pasting.

I felt like we were always going to end up regressing to a rank of 30 or less once the developed football nations actually started to invest in the women’s game.

Our best chance of winning a full senior team World Cup was 2019 and certain forces decided to sack Stajcic for no reason a few months out from the tournament. I hope they’re proud of themselves. I don’t see even getting close to winning one of the World Cups until we get another Golden Generation from either the men or women, and I doubt that is going to happen any time soon.

Triple M and Marty Sheargold have parted company after derogatory comments about the women’s national soccer team made by the radio host on Monday drew a furious backlash on Wednesday.
I listen to Sheargold pretty regularly, and the theme of what he said is pretty standard. The target often differs but the ‘gag’ is very much the same. And thats been his schtick for years.
Its funny that comedians of that age cant grasp that the game has changed and they have to work from different angles
