Remy Siemsen with her first Matildas callup

Hope she gets a run. Flying all the way out to Ireland, then having to quarantine on the way back is a huge commitment for a single friendly.

Youd hope so but it looked a huge squad for one friendly

I could have sworn Siemsen was already capped, but I must be thinking of someone else. Hope she gets some minutes, at least.

Great to be able to wake up and watch the match on channel 10

Ireland were very good value for their win

Same old problems. Unable to actually create anything, just hit and hope and cross your fingers for a mistake.

Some tip top goalkeeping on display yet again

Just saw the highlights, my stomach hurts.

Really hope Arnold getting hooked at half time was not pre-planned, positioning on that first one should be enough to see her never play for the NT again.

How did the midfield look without you-know-who?

A stupid game. Nothing worthy to take out of. Good or bad.

Just working my way through this fantastic interview with De Vanna:

I hope she comes to terms with her career being towards the end - it does definitely not need to end yet though, as her goal of the season from last year attests.

The FFA/FA is developing an unhealthy reputation for using players like a carton of milk - keep it and use it when its good, but once the use-by date arrives, throw it straight in the bin. It happened with the Golden Generation male players, and it looks like Lisa could be the first of many Golden Generation female players to go the same way. Very, very poor.

Apparently Logarzo did her ACL against Ireland.

I don’t think anyone who’s spent a substantial amount of time around women’s sporting teams would be overly shocked by this…

Every institution which tolerates “initiation”/hazing bullshit is ALWAYS going to have a toxic culture.

When the first thing that everyone learns when they step in the door is that “culture” of the institution trumps basic decency, of course its members will learn to look the other way on other forms of abuse and cover up other wrongdoing.

Shit’s not on.

FA have released a presser which can only be described as absolutely fucking woeful:

Also can’t help but notice the complete lack of acknowledgement or support for LdV from other Matildas, past or present, on the socials. Starkly contrasts with the outpouring of support in the wake of Stajgate where iirc Gorry & Heyman were the only 2 to remain silent. A cynic would think there might still be severe cultural issues involving members of the current squad.

I wonder if LdV would have felt as free to be open and honest about this if she was still in the scene for a spot in the national team.

The fear of being booted from the national team for daring to speak out about this stuff is probably pretty powerful, not just in the Matildas but all pro sports.

It’s so sad that some are using that very point against her, trying to paint her as just being bitter at the end of her career and ignoring exactly how institutionalised abuse is allowed to perpetuate.

Elia Santoro tweeting that she’s copping it privately for daring to speak up. I can’t even…
