Bolting from the Blue- The Central Coast Mariners Thread

It’s where they get a red card and a year-long ban, not where they get a clean sheet and least conceded record.

CCM got a really good one there!! Interesting that no A League club ever saw him and offered him a contract over all the years he was playing in eg PNG, NZ and Fiji. You would have thought that the Nux would have noticed something?? Really pleased for him - an honest, hardworking and talented defender - and for CCM.

Vanuatu is yellow and black! (or is that midnight eggplant?)

He trialled at the nux

Very happy for him but had really hoped he’d follow the lone line of mariners players we’ve poached

You just know he wouldn’t perform at any comparative level when poached from the Mariners.

Wonderful story. Proud to have the CCM as my ‘second’ club.

Synthetic pitches with pokies on each corner?

This is an interesting and refreshingly honest insight into the finance of CCM.

I think this is fantastic - open, honest and makes you feel apart of the club.

I’d be fascinated to see how we stack up, and the financial impact of the new training facility will have

What was the supposed misconception?

Did people think the Mariners are loaded?

I don’t understand the misconception bit either.

The Mariners have had a few transfers in the last year as well as getting nearly a million from FIFA in the World Cup. Perhaps people think they are financially well off because of this?

I was under the impression they owned that center of excellence, my work actually has an office in that building so I persumed we payed rent to marinars every month for it,

That sounds like a very specific assumption.

I thought the conventional wisdom was that Charlesworth squeezes the thing dry. I don’t know how the clubs ownership works, but the lede in that email, for me, was the notion that Peil is supposedly stumping up the 2mil shortfall personally! That seems very odd.

I don’t think it’s any surprise that the Mariners aren’t the richest club in Australia, let alone the world. I feel like that letter is probably a little more drastic than what a lot of people expected however.

I also assumed they own the COE, but if I’m reading that correctly it’s Mike Charlesworth who owns it.

I know they’ve received a bit of coin over the years from the successful transfers and World Cup money, but if they’re the sorts of losses they’re incurring every year, those small cash boosts won’t last long.

I suspect all A-League clubs are there about the same. We know that none of actively making profits each year. I daresay Sydney would have a pretty big defecit each year too.

Mike Charlesworth acquires a public asset for virtually nothing then leases it out to the football club he starved of funds for a very long time

What a guy.

That letter should have stated " We’re winning games now so you can attend without cringing. Kthxbai "

I assume there’s a club option to extend if he can successfully achieve all the shithousery KPI’s that would’ve previously been allocated to Matt Simon.
