Cup R32 - Western United vs Sydney FC - 29/7/25

First game of the season and the big question is: do we have 11 players to field?

It’ll be good to see where the kids are at here, particularly given that several of them are through the bulk of an NPL season.

Otherwise I don’t feel like there’s much riding on this one at this point. I don’t expect us to win and it won’t be apocalyptic if we lose given how much recruiting we have left.

Well the club promised that they’re taking the cup seriously this year so if they don’t pull their fingers out and get on with the signings so we can field a more competitive team then its just more meaningless words from this board.

So,

They’re still listed as banned on FIFA…

They Can’t register new players. But they signed JK.

Either the ban has been lifted or JK is ineligible to play yet because they can’t register him? (Does signing a player = registering a player?)

I’m flying down for the game because i gotta get to their “stadium” before the club folds.

No JK cannot play until the ban is lifted. If they play him, then I’m assuming they’ll be done for fielding an ineligible player. Im assuming the FIFA list is kept fairly up to date and I’m sure the SFC management is watching the team sheet with baited breath.

The club promised they’d have their signings before the first game. So far we have 1 and at this stage, I can’t see anyone being signed, arriving in the country and being fit to play by the 29th. So there goes that promise

One signing is a signing. So promise kept by Sydney FC. :joy:

I assume that would be first league game. There’s not been much time for European transfers to be done given people only came off contract three weeks ago.

Pretty sure they clearly stated they would have new signings before the Australia Cup game

Yeah but that was before Membership renewal …

If October is the bar, than that’s an incredibly low (or rather distant) bar. By then you are basically left to people unable to find or agree a contract anywhere, almost 2 months into most European seasons and past most transfer windows.

Does signing academy count ?

The club I guess is not counting cup games as part of the season.

I hope that nobody is expecting us to pull up any trees for this game.

Just think how much more mileage can be got out of “strong pre-season” on socials after we win this. Vital match.

Nah we winning the cup then sacking the coach two weeks later

We beat Hakoah 7-0. The high point of the season.

It’s all downhill from here.
