I don’t think Marinos have been that strong in recent years, with a month to go last season they were hovering around the relegation zone and Ange was under pressure.
Without bothering to check now I recall they snagged a Brazilian or two in the off-season who’ve been scoring for fun this year and led the turnaround in fortunes. Would be interesting to know the story behind who scouted and recruited them (shades of Broich falling into his lap?).
Fuck Ange. You don’t religiously state that your building a team to not just qualify for the World Cup, but to make sure you can actually do some damage once you’re get there, then fuck off on the eve of the tournament. Leaving players and fans at the end of a four year journey with a parachute manager and no clue what’s going on.
All that bullshit about how we need to grow up as a footballing nation and not just be happy with qualifying, but expect to have a go at winning the actual tournament and have a team that is set up to do that. Then he throws it all in and says nah, this ain’t for me now. Like he’s some kind of football managing god and whoever comes after him will just follow in his footsteps because he’s set up this amazing team and structure that can’t be argued with. Fuck off!! The next guy did what every next guy does, his own fucking thing. And we got dumped out of the World Cup looking like a team who’s coach had fucked off at the all important moment. Fuck Ange.
