Don't Blame Me, I Voted for Zdrilić: The Ufuk Talay Thread

Yeah this whole idea seem to die overnight didnt it?

We did it well when he took over last season and then there were good moments this season. I actually thought there wasn’t last season’s urgency with the high press, this season. We weren’t going in as hard. Throw in older players and a really bad defensive line and you have a tactic we were preparing all pre-season not work.

Ange is Talay on crack.

I’m still voting No because my son giggles at his first name. So he has to stay.

Could be fun tbf. Not in regards to winning trophies of course but in other ways

Its probably a fair debate on is the press not working this season because Zdrillic was the brains or is it not working because we didn’t recruit well enough defensively/ dont have the players for it.

It also probably has something to do with starting pretty much the same 11 in every game.
That’s fine when you’re only playing once a week but we’re play8ing multiple games per week at the hottest and most humid time of the year.

What made us dangerous last season - the high press, has completly gone this season and we are left no football with no game plan, apart from just give it to Lolley i couldnt tell you what game plan we have

The high press doesnt work when your defenders arent fast enough to get back on the counter

Not exactly in the #Talay-In camp but noticed this on Fotmob.

In the second season under Arnie, we finished 7th, which is where we currently are under Talay. Could the 3rd season be where Talay really shines?

Seriously don’t have an agenda either way, just an interesting stat.

No.

Arnie never signed a player he coached 3years earlier who had been out injured for 2 years to fill a gap in the squad that didn’t need to be filled.

If there was a sign that we were building to something then I’d agree but there is very little indication of that.

That stat shows he was more successful with the team Corica built :sob:

If you consider Matt Simon’s inability to trap a football a form of injury, the rest of the post holds.

Matt Simon wasn’t there to kick a football, he was there to kick heads in.

Didn’t he sign Bernie Ibini after he hadn’t played a game for 2 years due to an injury despite having Ninko and Holosko as starters and Carney as a backup?

No.
He brought him in on loan 12 months after he got his injury in Belgium.

I assume he was brought in for his pace, something that the 3 you mention aren’t exactly known for.
That’s before you get to one being a #10 and the other a LB whereas Ibini is a winger.

He’d been out for a year with injury and on either side had off season, so he’d not played for 2 years… Plus bringing in a player who’d broken his fibula and taken 350 days to recover and assume he had speed is pretty poor…

It was 18 months and he was training with one of the best clubs in Belgium.
He was 23 and it was a loan signing. If he reinjured himself then we could send him back to Brugge.

Sotirio was 21 months and he was in India.
He’s 29 and is a permanent signing. If he reinjures himself we’re stuck with him.
