How much do you think the assistant coach has helped? I recall they hadn’t even met prior to working together.
Not looking for a reason just opinions. When we had Zdrilic it was better pressing, still with some defensive issues.
Stanton was good with Corica before he went to Newcastle
This is totally unfair on John Maisano, but if we’re faced with another season of Talay, for my own sanity I’m going to start blaming our assistant coach for our poor results this season.
If I keep telling myself that things were looking ok when Zdrilla had us doing the RB geggenpress, and things started to go pear shaped when he left for Perth and Maisano came in, then maybe, just maybe I can pretend there’s some hope for next season.
I obviously don’t believe this, but I’m not sure how else I can look at another Talay season with anything but grave concern.
We have a coaching staff that comprise of a number of individuals. Talay’s best periods have come when he’s had pretty good assistants under him (Chiefy, then Zdrilla).
This doesn’t necessarily mean that Talay is a shit head coach and he’s just been relying on good assistant coaches (I think Italiano and Zdrilic have shown this season they aren’t perfect).
If A. Popovic deserved a 3 year contract extension after showing us what’s in his locker, then I don’t see why Talay doesn’t get an extension too?
Coming 7th in what is arguably the highest quality A-League comp to-date and getting knocked out by a Singaporean team in the ACL2 is basically exceeding expectations.
Just need to sign a few midfielders in the off season and our squad is looking good!
Farina’s doughnut felt like it was every game. Ufuk has generally at least tried to fill the middle of the field. There’s no current HAL manager I’d swap for though really.
Arnold back; sure if its offered I’d bite your hand off. I’ll daydream that he could squeeze out the dominance of the glory days of Adrian from Costa et al
