Everything is on fire - the US politics thread

Makes sence on Vance, hes a Yale lawyer whereas Walz is a football coach. The fact that he held his own is quite impressive in itself

Are you saying itā€™s actually a good thing that the Republicans have equalized??

I didnā€™t say that in the post (I was just saying it was overall a good debate from both sides but to be fair I did think Vance was the ā€˜winnerā€™), but ultimately Iā€™d probably like to see a Republican win, yes. Iā€™m more indifferent but probably have a slant towards Republicans as the winning party.

Is that ok with you?

I mean, Iā€™m not going to stop you, but itā€™s not greatā€¦

Iā€™d be interested as to why you think Trump would be good (or better) for anyone - Americans, Australians, the rest of the world?

Youā€™ll notice I said Republicans and not necessarily Trump, I like to think more about the parties than the people who as demonstrated the past few months can be pushed aside, assassinated etcā€¦ My ideals are generally more right wing and Republican policies in general obviously more align with that world view than Democrat ones.

Well it is specifically Trump. And if he dies itā€™s specifically Vance who is owned by a billionaire and thinks the US should have a corporatised monarch instead of any kind of democratic process. You cant divorce Trump from the race and just say ā€œRepublicansā€.

These people are dangerous and have taken over the Republican party.

So, is the anti-muslim and Mexican immigration, or the anti-abortion stuff?

Or are you only interested their economic policy, but your willing to overlook the social stuff?

Especially when, surely no party has ever been so beholden to this particular individual.

But equally, you canā€™t say itā€™s ā€œjust Trumpā€ when the party is full of absolute maggots like JD Vance, Mike Johnson, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Tommy Tuberville, MTG etc

The Republican party is no longer the Republican party. Theyre so far away from their roots and itā€™s 90% Trumpā€¦

Your sentiment would be reasonable if we were still talking about the Ronald Reagan or Bush Sr Republican Party, but in more recent years, and especially under Trump, itā€™s evolving into something terrifying.

Its not hyperbole to say the GOP is evolving into something akin to the pre-WW2 Nazi party. Project 2025 will just cement that into place. Weā€™re literally looking at the possible end of American democracy.

When even Dick fucking Cheney endorses a Democrat candidate you know thereā€™s something seriously wrong with the current GOP.

Iā€™ve been reading Jack Smithā€™s evidentiary submission that had to be redone because of the qualified immunity Supreme Court nonsense.

Trump is utterly fucked, Smith has recordings, videos and endless eyewitness statments showing that he knew the election fraud claims were bullshit, that he knew he had lost and that he orchestrated the effort to overturn the 2020 election despite knowing full well that he lost. If the national media pick this up and run with it, heā€™s toast in the election.

Anybody else would be facing the death penalty for treason, heā€™ll probably get a fine.

Probably explains why heā€™s started ā€œslippingā€ at rallies that they only lost 2020 by a little bit.

ā€œThe defendant asserts that he is immune from prosecution for his criminal scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election because, he claims, it entailed official conduct,ā€ the document begins. ā€œNot so.ā€

I love the idea that overthrowing the government could be a protected official act by a government agent.
