Everything is on fire - the US politics thread

You almost need another world war to make people understand what people like Trump really mean and do… All the lessons we’d learnt from WW2 are essentially being forgotten. Ultimately, you have a whole load of individuals espousing dictators and making the exact same choices that individuals did in Nazi Germany. The worst part of it is that there was no Great Depression of repercussions from a war that would drive people like they did in the 1930’s. It’s literally stupid people just being stupid

It’s a very small view of the world (that a lot of us hold) that “we” learned anything from WWII. The “we” in this case is a small sample of the global community.

The slow (or sudden) erosion of democratic society and rise of dictatorships is something that we as a global society never seem to be able to prevent, despite having more than enough evidence of how it happens, we just let it happen (or even facilitate it) again and again around the world.

"Time is a flat circle. Everything we have done or will do we will do over and over and over again—forever.”

Is it though? I think the world collectively learnt just how low society can sink just from the lessons from the holocaust. WW2 is the reason why we even have the UN. Granted it’s a waste of resources and has pretty much turned into a joke, but still, there’s been reasonable attempts for world peace. We just keep on going backwards the moment the last generation to experience the horror dies off

Then add in the evangelicals and religious nutjobs who’ve been conditioned since birth to believe one resource over and above any contradictory science or reason. The Bible or Trump’s social feed, it’s all the same to those folks.

It’s just such a weird concept with the Evangelicals and religious types. There’s a town in America filled with Muslims that, for a time, banned homosexuality. I mean they’re in a country that is openly racist towards them and then they enact their own bigotry, it’s amazing. The Evangelicals are even weirder, they literally embody the American/Republican hypocrisy to a tee. They preach love, but then attack outsiders, they talk about sharing, but hoard wealth etc. Throw in how many of them are being caught out being homosexual themselves

We learned nothing from the first half of the century. Nothing.

Homo Sapians, no matter what race, creed, religion, colour, language or spiritual beliefs, we’re a inherently violent species.

Religion is just a tool used to justify it the majority of the time.

But there’s only a few of those that involved white people. And they were mostly against brown or yellow people. So theyre not really wars, they’re spreading democracy.

What’s really crazy, by my count, 13 of those involve conflicts with Communism where a Communist government attempted expansion or overthrow of the controlling regime/party, I’ve included the South American stuff as one

Trump Party conservatives are 99% projection. It’s the laziness and transparency of it that I find extra infuriating, it’s like they read that one Goebbels bit (accuse the other side of that which you are guilty) and just cbf dressing it up or putting a bow on it.

I once read a stat that, on average, democracies fail in about 250 years. USA declared independence in 1776

Nashville police commander commenting on a shootout at a homecoming event. 1 dead, 9 wounded.

“It’s unfortunate that a few folks ruined it for everybody"

So casual. Like someone set off a fire alarm instead of shooting someone dead.

I hate it when someone ruins a thing by murdering people. So inconsiderate.

They can at least make it bigger so it’s less fortunate and people can send thoughts and prayers

Another week another Trump assassination attempt. You do wonder whether he’ll even make it to election day let alone live out the 4 years if he wins.

Hold on, if you read the article, there’s zero proof that he was actually going to assassinate Trump. He was driving in the area and stopped at a checkpoint and found with a loaded weapon. Considering that’s the US, how weird is that in general? Granted the guy was a “sovereign citizen,” he’s still meant to be right wing. Even the sheriff said, “we probably stopped an assassination event.” How is probably proof?

That’s exactly what I was thinking. There was enough suspicion to see that credentials were forged? It again seems a bit suspicious to me.
