Why didnāt we draw a non A-league club? I though if you finished in the top 4 in the league you were guaranteed a non A-league club in the round of 32?

Im guessing they want to to try and increase the chances that non-aleague teams continue on to the latter stages of the comp. Itās meant to be the magic of the cup isnāt it? Allowing lower teams compete against the big boys for silverware, āeveryone has a chanceā
I thought (from my hazy memory of when this whole thing started years ago) that the bottom six Australian teams were guaranteed to be drawn against each other, that there was a quarter of the draw that no A-League team could be drawn into, and the rest was down to chance. Thatās obviously either outdated or wrong, because based on those rules we couldnāt have drawn a bottom six side.
Yeah thatās how it used to be (until this year maybe?) but this time around I guess they went for a more open draw, which is probably sensible and hopefully more of a move towards a fully open draw.
They scrapped the āHAL semi-finallists get non-HAL oppoā rule the year after bringing it in. I remember reading an article about it saying it worked against the idea of a Cup competition. Canāt for the life of me find it now.
Hey, hereās an idea. Why donāt they just put all 64 balls into one pot and do the draw from just one pot.
Iām a traditionalist. Any manipulation of the draw should be via the accepted methods such as hot and cold balls.
If thatās the case, weād have to confirm if Giggs can make it for the draw
