Bingo. That doesn’t seem to get talked about at all in policy or media circles. Drives me crazy.

Probably because those people are the ones who are benefitting from and not suffering under the housing crisis.

Someone at work was hit with an increase request from 700 to 1300pw, they fought it and ended up agreeing 1050 - which was around what comparable places were being advertised for (900-1100 or so), sucked it up to not have to have the hassle of finding another place.

Not saying 13% isn’t unreasonable, it is, but I’ve heard way worse. It’s shit when 13% is not even remotely unusual. Housing as investment is the problem, but the last time a political party tried to do something about it they lost the election.

We’re just under 900/week for a 3 bedroom Town House in the Inner West. We have a year left on the lease and I’m expecting atleast a $300 increase… Part of that is bracing for the worst and hoping to be surprised if it’s less but the whole thing is so farcical I wouldn’t at all be surprised if it goes up even more.

why would it? Most of the media and policy makers are getting rich off of it…

There was this Chinese guy once, who had a pretty effective way of handling issues with landlords

The big issue with rises is that property managers get paid % Commission. As someone with a property that’s being rented I’m constantly having to push back on their suggested rate rises and saying no, but it takes so much energy and time and many of these rises that were happening in the market when interest rates were stable were driven by the fucking agents just creating their own reality and further lining their pockets for generally doing fuck all. I know this as I was renting myself and had similar landlords and the agent was telling me the owners knocked back the increases that they suggested.

Okay, so the landlord agreed to an increase of $30 rather $40 after some prodding. I have 6 more weeks on the current rate, then my occupancy agreement ends and I’ll just live off-agreement (I’ve been signing for 12-month periods until now). Apparently I have to give 3 weeks notice of leaving and they have to me 1 month notice of they want me gone.

So, declutter, look around, look at my options in the meantime.

The less-than-flattering remarks I made about cashed-up landlord were passed on and obviously not well-received, so I suppose I should be thankful for him keeping me on AND agreeing to $10 less.

Having said that, I find the response of “Well that’s my business” amusing when he’s using his supposedly tight financial situation as the reason for the steep rise.

Hey, I can be pragmatic. He can charge whatever he wants, but boarders and potential boarders don’t have to like it or be sympathetic either.

Did anybody ask for the Rozelle-M8 interchange?

Biggest shitfight this morning. In Artarmon for a training day, abd getting out of the M8 onto CityWest link was a nightmare. 40 minutes from the traffic inside the tunnel to the Anzac Bridge.

Thankfully left home at 6.30am, for a few moments there didn’t think I was going to make it.

I went down it to the airport at 5pm on Monday, was actually a lot faster and meant I didn’t have to do my usual loop of tracking back through Silverwater to get onto the M4

Any other time outside of rush hour and it’s great, even going west on the Anzac bridge in the afternoon is now much, much faster

Just the morning is an absolute shit fight

Meant to exchange contracts for our new flat today and at 5pm yesterday the fucking seller advised their solicitor they changed their name a month ago and has decided it’s only just now time to bring that up. Means we now need to re-sign all the documents with her correct name before we can exchange.

Did it get done in the end?

“Urgent work” on local electrical wiring. Have had messages about it pretty much every week for the last few months saying maintenance was going to be done. And yep, you probably guessed it, they decided that today should be the day maintenance is conducted, and my area lost power for four hours. Are they for real? I saw at least one man in my street get taken to hospital due to heat exhaustion.

Hopefully happening today as long as their new signed documents arrive with their solicitor today.

Should get the keys to the new place one the 21st and will make the move on the 23rd, so will be in for Christmas which will be nice at least.

Another gear grind is moving house though, fuck it sucks in every way. Sorting through all your stuff, packing, the moving day, unpacking, changing address on everything, setting up internet, trying to get rental deposit back.
