It’s not a joke tho is it. It’s ok. This is a safeish space…
What is it with cafes and kids milkshakes? Been to multiple ones where I’ve ordered a takeaway coffee, a bacon and egg role and a kids milkshake for the toddler. Almost each time, we’ve gotten the food and coffee before the milkshake has come out. Then the blood size of the things. I stress that I want the smallest size, but it invariably ends up being some massive plastic monstrosity that would feed me for breakfast by itself, let alone a 3 year old…
Where are you getting these giant milkshakes? My milkshake complaint would be that they’re invariably $9 and tiny.
I’ve been to about 10 different and the vast majority will be absolutely giant, especially for a 3 year old.
I need to move to one of these giant milkshake suburbs, pronto.
Also one where they actually make a milkshake and not just a cup of milk with syrup drizzled into it with no mixing.
Maccas shakes.
I think I’ve made this rant before but say what you will about Macca’s, atleast you know what you’re getting.
I too have the same gripe about “kid sized” drinks from cafes. Rare for a place to actually get it right.
Also, I think some places actually relish giving you something that they know is about to ruin your life for the next 2 hours because you either have a kid hopped up on sugar OR you’re having a fight with your kid because dad had to have a giant sip of their shake so they don’t get early onset diabetes
This covid loss of smell can just fuck right off.
I am fine with the congestion, shivers, sweats etc but I would like to be able to taste coffee.
This is you one and only opportunity to properly enjoy blend 43
Am I being unreasonable, or is a 13% increase on my rent RIDICULOUS?
Technically, I’m a boarder under an “occupancy agreement”, thus am not protected by tenants’ rights under formal rent. So, they don’t have any obligation to keep the increase under a certain amount.
But let’s for a second pretend that a landlord can be reasonable…13%!?
The agent says he’ll go to bat for me, I offer the midway point. Nope. They don’t even suggest 75% of the way…He comes back over 2 weeks later and that the landlords want the 13% increase.
The landlord lives two properties over. A ridiculously huge house for Glebe. With a pool. With multiple cars. With kids who go to private school. They own at least one more property. Apparently they HAVE TO increase the rent by this much because of “the economy”.
How do y’all think I’m doing in the same economy?
Seems they run the risk of losing their existing boarders if they insist on too sudden and too steep an increase.
I hear you. It’s very frustrating at the moment / the last two years or so.
I moved out of my place about a year ago as they were putting the rent up 60% and would not budge / factor in my excellent tenanthood.
The place I moved to is better value, but now I have received notice that the landlord is putting it up 15% as well. Same reasons as yours gave you. They actually suggest a 25% increase, but accepted how great I was at keeping the place immaculate / fixing everything myself so discounted down to “only” 15%.
Sadly, in NSW there is no “reasonable increase” provision.
I mean it depends on how much you’re paying etc. the market rates are obviously inflated but has your rent been significantly lower than what it could have been over the period?
My mate has an investment house in Brisbane that they’re looking to sell. They contacted the tenants and informed them of the situation and asked them to make the house presentable for inspections etc. The same friends are currently going through the process in Sydney as they’re renting and the house is up for sale. The tenants were up in arms, got abusive and ended up breaking the lease early.
In the midst of this, they told my friend to take the cleaning bill out of the bond via email. They did so, and are being taken to arbitration because the tenants are claiming they did it illegally. They’ve left now, but left most of the furniture and it’s further transpired that they’d been subletting the place for double what they were paying for…
I like the sound of this.
yeah, way to show it to the landlord by charging someone else renting double what they would be paying if they rented directly from the landlord. Fight the power!
This is what they claim.
They also say that the recommended increase is 20%.
I don’t know what the recommendation is based on. Presumably based on them turning a reasonable profit on the property (There are also 5 others boarders).
All I know is that my rent will have increased $60 since this time last year.
I doubt that this would be that much of a concern to them. Given the shortage of “affordable” housing someone will be in your place a week later paying 20%+ more than what you’re currently paying.
It fucking sucks but it is a direct result of housing becoming an investment rather than a right.
