You don’t own the road as a motorist. It’s not there specifically for you, and cyclists have just as much right to be there.
Yes, sometimes you get held up by someone on a bike. Just like idiot drivers hold you up, or cut you off, or do any number of other idiotic shit. Guess what, when you speed up to 10kmh over the speed limit you’re going to make that 15.8 seconds of your life back, and then some.
The issue isn’t cyclists, it’s fucking selfish people / assholes.
Depends on what you mean by path - shared paths are just that - people walk out on to them, they also have much slower riders on them or children who don’t tend to ride in a straight line so you generally cannot ride full speed along them. They also tend to have morons who stand in the middle of them with prams having a good old chat because they are deadshits. It’s actually safer to hold up agro drivers on the road than ride some shared paths.
If you mean a shoulder, depends how narrow it is and how many cars are likely to be parked ahead - it’s safer to stay in a lane rather than constantly chop/change lanes.
As a motorist in NSW you can even cross double lines to overtake cyclists.
I cycle on the road and have seen some abhorrent shit but i can see why drivers get the shits. It only takes a short scroll on on some of the cycling groups on FB to see how self entitled they can be and unfortunately, just like drivers, these are the ones that give their tribes a bad name.
Correct. Every group has their bad apples - it mostly comes down to a select few being assholes.
What you don’t see is cyclists going around on news websites, Facebook and social media etc saying they are going to run them down whenever something about cyclists is posted.
Riding a motorcycle was one of the best things I ever did for my mental health. The very in the moment need to control the bike and not crash and die is really great for taking away your anxiety stress. Something a bicycle never, ever did.
Canned it yesterday. If I have to put with ads I’ll just watch SBS, tubi and plex.
This cunt today was in the middle of the road and not even pedalling. If you’re trying, I’ll give you a whole lot of leeway, but that was taking the piss.
The cyclists who insist on riding down the middle of Bourke St instead of using the bike lane can do one. The street was made narrower to accommodate bikes, the least they can do is use their lane!
the only thing i’ll say about cyclists, if I have to sit multiple exams showing that I know the road rules, then pay registration, where part of that goes towards road maintenance, on top of having to carry ID just in case something occurs, then why don’t cyclists have to do the same?
Because theyre not operating a machine that weighs a couple of tonnes & have virtually no wear on the road. Plus the majority of them will also have a car licence as it is.
no, but they’re riding on roads next to machines that weigh a couple of tonnes… why are they not required to at least prove they know how to ride safely, as well as be required to register their vehicles with a unique ID, that way at least they can be found if breaking the law
Hard to believe some of the morons behind the wheel out there have passed an exam, to be fair. Far more dangerous drivers and that is infinitely worse than the annoyance of cyclists. Still, cyclists are inherently cunts.
Every single cyclist who rides on major roads, yes. If you’re doing your thing on a quiet residential street more power to you, I’m sure it’s good exercise. As a method of commuting it became outdated once the first Model T rolled off the line.
Driving is stressful enough trying to avoid a minefield of sedated suburban mums in Cayennes and homicidal maniacs in lifted utes without having to worry about the lycra crowd too.
Then it would be nice if modern tanks paid their proper dues then. On top of the mortal danger they pose to everyone else, they cut up the road levels of magnitude more than your modest hatchback.
Also it would also be ace if drivers really paid for that weird phenomenon where public land is set aside for people to store their stuff for free, provided that stuff is a car.
Bike lanes are often poor lit and usually don’t drain well in the wet, tending to pool up with the run off from the road bit with the cage meat on it. The least you can do is consider some simple practicalities and safety issues like this.
Then drivers block the intersection, and the single available bike lane because it’s absolutely imperative that the world make way for them to keep their nostrils crammed up the arse of that far in front.
