Sale having a Barry

Thank Christ for Kike

There was a stat a few years back showing how Kike’s batting average was significantly higher when he wore tighter pants. Assume he went a size down for today (great catch also).

The upcoming ABL season has been abandoned, seems they couldn’t work around the various border issues.

it’s a bit weird cancelling it just as everything is opening up

Apparently there’s a February deadline for it to be completed, the start had already been pushed back to December so was going to be tight, and with two international teams (Geelong-Korea & Auckland Tuatara) plus Perth still being difficult they’ve decided it was too financially risky to plough on. Tough call but they want all teams viable for the 22/23 season.

As good a time as any to revisit the opening post of this thread. :beers:

Can someone please finish off the Dodgers FFS!

That Soler homer looked very catchable, Alvarez just missed it before the wall ate him.

Common sense finally prevails, amazing that with 162 games this has never been done before. The previous system of playing inter-league divisions every 3 years (only hosting some teams every 6!) was ridiculous.

Going to Red Sox at Yankees on 9/26.

Back of the outfield. Cheapest tix but still expensive ($240 for 3). Look for me in a SFC top.

Go Yanks!

Jesus.
I got tickets behind the home dugout in San Francisco for $15

More changes announced for next year:

Albert Pujols joins the 700 club.

I was at the Yankees vs Red Sox game on 25/9.

Aaron Judge going for a record-tying 61st home run this season, which became an obsession for the Yankees fans, such that everyone stood up chanting his name, taking videos every time he was at bat. At one of the previous games in the series, the Yankees fans were heard chanting ‘let’s go Red Sox’ while leading late in the game, hoping they’d score a tying run against the Yankees so they can see Judge at bat another time, talking to see a home run.

No such luck for me, and the game was rain delayed at the bottom of the 6th with the Yankees leading 2-0, and the game eventually called off and Yankees awarded the win and a series sweep of the Red Sox (as per MLB rules which state the winning side is awarded a win if 5 full innings are played).

Some photos and videos from that day:

Yep they have cupholders

But beer is expensive. They seem to be about 500mL size though.

Zero rain cover on the top tier concourse with a bit of wind, raining from both sides and getting soaked.

Fans waited for a re-start but the deluge of rain never let up, game called after 6 innings.

Aaron Judge hits a double

RBI hit from Trevino, and a run is scored.

Some observations:

Yankees Stadium holds 54K and it was a near sellout (for Judge’s home run record attempt), and the transportation there from Midtown Manhattan was ridiculously easy. You get out of the station and the stadium is 200 metres away.

Getting into the stadium took 15 minutes of queuing up. A bit long in retrospect but anticipation meant it didn’t feel long.

Views from my cheap 4th tier seats were excellent.

Every seat has a cup holder, but only about 10% of the seats have any rain cover (only the cheapest seats have any rain cover). The concourse floods with heavy rain and a bit of wind. People took cover in the stairs and ramp that connects the levels. Keep in mind this is a 2.3 billion US dollar stadium built in 2009. Puts the old SFS in some context!

Overall a fun night out, shame about the game being called off at the bottom of the 6th.

I’ll also be at the Nationals at Mets on 5 October. Hoping for a better game.

Welcome to New York. As a Queens resident, I have adopted the Mets over the Yankees. I think citifield is a smaller, but better stadium with much better and cheaper food options. Citifield uses local food vendors, in addition to regular hotdog stuff. You should take the time to explore Queens, and by explore I mean eat. Its by far the tastiest borough in the city. Jackson Heights and flushing in particular.

Feel free to PM me if you have any general New York questions.
