You have a really short memory mate (or you’re incredibly young) we’ve been through this cycle or one just like it many times.

Rumors tonight that Israeli government has ordered international airlines not to allow Israelis to evacuate, only foreigners, when flights resume…
Meanwhile Netanyahu has fucked off to Greece instead of staying while his country is under attack. I guess he doesn’t hold a hose either.
Israel claims to have blown up two F-14s on the tarmac (they were bought just before the cultural revolution by the Shah’s air force, only country other than the US to operate them).
Less believably, Iran claims to have shot down up to four F-35s and captured a female pilot. That would be the first in history to be shot down if true AFAIK
The only difference is though, the current wars have been fought on and off for decades, with only Ukraine as an exception. The Middle East has been punching on since Ancient Roman times and the current conflict has existed for around a century. Africa is a constant melting pot for war, Turkey has been fighting the kurds for decades and the Stans all hate each other anyway. It’s nothing new and further to that, there’s nothing really to be gained by sending in troops to say, Iran. Afganistan and Iraq have shown how difficult it is to control a population that religiously motivated and hostile to Western Countries.
The main threat at the moment would be war spreading from Russia into Europe. But even then, I dare say Putin understands there is absolutely no way he would win a war on two fronts. Most of his active troops are in Ukraine, they’re bringing in older and older tanks and have just lost up to a third of their airborne ballistic missile capacity. If Putin can’t manage to take over Ukraine despite very clear aerial, armoured and artillery superiority (on top of long range missiles), then there’s no way he’ll be able to commit to a war with NATA that has, at the minimum, military parity in terms of numbers.
They were never close to a deal. Iran came out and actually stated the deal was completely nonsensical and the US had been chopping and changing their requirements to the extent that they didn’t know what was even been discussed. That and from what I could see, Trump was suggesting essentially the same deal that was already in place before he blew it all up.
Sorry, last one from me, saw someone post on one of those flight tracking apps, that the US had launched 28 refuelling jets towards the Atlantic, definitely not going to northern Europe. Suggestions are that the US may start to offer refuelling capabilities for Israeli jets to allow them to strike deeper into Iran. That or they’re expecting major escalation in the region and are preparing for their own aircraft. On top of this, Trump just left G7 early to focus on the situation in the region.
I would be shocked if the US was not actively supporting this escalation previously. It’s common for Likud to trigger a shooting war in the leadup to an election cycle, but if they didn’t have the greenlight from the Republicans they’d have done something more contained like attacking Lebanon or Syria again. They already had one carrier group within range of Iran and it’s being joined by the Nimitz.
Nah, he just didn’t wanna get shirtfronted by Albo.
Nah I know we’ve had these escalations before, it just seems worse this time.
My comment about stocking up was hyperbolic, more tongue in cheek than any actual plans on doing a raid of Costco, but I dunno maybe because I’m going through some shit and I’ve got young kids its hitting me harder than normal?
I’m also not saying it’s the end times, but Israel and Iran haven’t directly attacked one another through non-covert means before. This is a new and dangerous state of play and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Israel goes nuclear if things don’t do their way. It’s the first time we have been so close to that since the India-Pakistan tension in 1998…
It’s definitely a lot more serious than it was before, but that’s in part due to right wing politicians being in power and allowing this stuff to occur. I can see a very big over-correction occurring next US election and then throughout parts of Europe as they see the repercussions of Trump-like presidencies. Even Israel will be an interesting one to watch. Netanyahu is definitely unpopular at the moment and he’s now directly caused Israel to be hit with ballistic missiles that Israel is struggling to destroy.
If they go nuclear, that’ll essentially be the end of Israel. They’ll be cut off from the global stage with only the US willing to trade with them while Trump is in power. Even Netanyahu isn’t silly enough to risk the global outrage of something like that. I’ve always wondered whether he’s a true Zionist, or whether he sees Zionism as a useful way to stay in power.
I think the “online-ness” of all of this stuff plays a big role too.
We’re more connected to these wars than we’ve ever been.
Whatevs. I’m sure Hamas is to blame!
Or Biden
Seriously though, imagine living in that neck of the woods. What a shit part of the world
Ok so on top of 28 Airborne Tankers being sent to Europe, Trump leaving G7 early, Macron just stated that Trump left early to negotiate a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Here was Trump’s response:
“He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire,” he went on. “Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!”
Sort of getting a tiny bit wierd now…
What’s much bigger than a ceasefire? Arguably nothing more important
I’ve spent a considerable amount of time in Israel/Palestine and Egypt as well as a brief visit to Iran and I can say that there are things about these countries and peoples that are some of the most enchanting and fascinating places in the world. Palestine and especially Iran are some of the friendliest places I’ve ever been, despite their circumstances - it’s a persian custom to refuse money for things they are literally selling, and you have to ask them twice what the price is.
