An important reminder for conservatives, that the Howard cabinet was full of fuck heads too.
An important reminder for conservatives, that the Howard cabinet was full of fuck heads too.
To modern day conservatives, it feels like they believe being a fuck head is a badge of honour.
So the CFMEU has decided to wage war against the AFL after they hired the old head of the ABCC to be head of umpiring. Heâs suggested that CFMEU members would refuse to work properly on any AFL linked building projects. I mean how the fuck isnât that abuse of power? Iâd sort of understand if the guy was employed in some building or government capacity, but itâs just downright absolute bullying.
Following that, Labor is introducing legislation to allow the CFMEU to split after complaints from female members in the Manufacturing Division that the more militant parts of the CFMEU donât represent their views.
Ok so maybe Iâm blindly optimistic especially given poll results, but could this nuclear thought bubble be the beginning of the end for Dutton?
Ignoring whether it is actually a good idea or not⊠This plan is uncosted and from all accounts would be multiple times more expensive than renewables? No buy in from the states? Pushing out timeframes to reduce emissions? Old people, the coalition base, are scared of change/nimbyism? And no involvement, information or discussions with the back bench?
I mean, apart from people who want jobs in the Hunter and rural seats (and Joe hockey) who donât like the idea of looking at renewables, who is for this? From a party that just got hammered in teal seats in part due to its approach to climate?
I mean, is this just cutting off his nose in an attempt to wedge Labor? I just donât get it.
It should. It really should, but just remember that there are a shocking number of people in this country who are both terrifically stupid and irrationally hate any kind of renewable energy. If Dutton just promises them the magic cure of nuclear power they will buy it.
Labour need shit to counter the âimmigrationâ narrative. Rightly or wrongly (both really) that has seriously hurt them. If the libs can keep hammering that and just lie their way through the climate stuff with a nuclear magic wand it could work.
I wouldnât put anything past this electorate.
Remember, this is a party that saw those results and figured the solution is to double down on the weirdo right wing culture war politics - which is what this is.
Dutton is apparently preferred at the moment. The irony is that I canât see it generating that much work for people currently in the Hunter. I may be wrong, but working in a Nuclear Plant is going to take some pretty specialized individuals, a long with some very stringent security clearances. Worth mentioning that people that donât want renewables may also not want Nuclear Power where they live. Youâre very much going to have a whole load of NIMBYâs involved.
Going even more Voldemort.
Thatâs pretty much it. I know enough boomers who think the CSIRO are deliberately fudging the figures to steer the nation towards âwhatever the government tells them to sayâ. I guess the Liberals wanted clean energy between 2013 and 2022 then
I know Barnaby Joyce and his idiots are against the wind farm near nundle, do you reckon Barnaby is going to start talking up a nuclear power plant there instead?
Barnaby Joyce looks like somebody who has been exposed to too much radiation around Nuclear Power plants already.
Four Corners covered that project last week.
Itâs not just the Nats against the project, you also have the Greens against it as itâs prime Koala habitat. Thereâsa bit of NIMBYism around it as well.
Barnaby could turn the Golden Guitar into a nuclear reactor and still retain his seat.
Interesting survey that appeared on Insiders on Sunday.
The results indicated that the cost of living is now the #1 concern of the people polled. The environment/climate change has dropped from #1 to #3 and continues to track downward.
If Dutton can sell nuclear as being a cheaper alternative to renewals then there will be some cut through.
Thatâs not unsurprising, people are more concerned about an issue directly affecting them right now opposed to one that will affect them in 10-20 years. Not sure how building nuclear power plants that will take a decade + to get up and running will ease the cost of living though.
Seems like the best option would be government subsidised rooftop solar for low and middle income earners would do far more to ease cost of living and pump renewables.
Gross generalisation, and unfair slander, âŠ
unless you mean those born before QE2âs coronation.
âI may be a baby boomer, but that doesnât make me an old fartâ - Billy Thorpe.
Fuck the CFMEU. bring back the NSW branch of the BLF!
I donât think anyone that lives in Lithgow now would be qualified to work in a nuclear plant, and all the uranium mining is in the NT.
So, lie? Itâs not and even if it was it wonât be ready before coal plants need to be mothballed, meaning either expensive new fossil fuel plants or regularly using peaking gas plants which are even more expensive. Or just building the big batteries and renewables anyway.
Hmmmm I think Leroy nailed it. So itâs because Dutton is a shameless populist who will say anything to manipulate people who wonât think and get in power despite having no intention of following through.
Shouldâve known. Democracy doesnt work.
Damn, that sucks .
CFMEU should have refused to do any work for the AFL because theyâre a pack of cunts.
