I dunno, racist immigration and refugee stuff has been our thing for ever basically. Plus “youth crime” scares and just jailing children is a cyclical fad too it seems.

“Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…” Churchill’s always misquoted remarks on democracy have resonated with me since I was a teenager. I believe in compulsory voting, free and fair elections
I’ve voted Labor, local, state and Federal in every election since 1991
The sight of Labor combining with the fucking Tories to take down the CFMEU in a Sky News jizzfest has turned my fucking stomach
Sure, Setka is a piece of work, and the union is full of cunts and all the rest
Can’t vote for the Greens… Bandt is a fuckin’ fraud.
I’d probably split with the AJP over 1080…
Cunts.
The thing about AJP is that they voted against a vote of no-confidence in the koala killer state government of Berejiklian and Barilaro. And guess what? That no-confidence motion was defeated by a single vote.
Anyone that lives in a metropolitan area, especially the inner suburbs probably doesn’t realise how racist and intolerant the rest of Australia really is.
You go a few hours out of the cities and it’s a very, very different story. Go further out again and it’s even worse.
I’ve never voted Labor primary. They end up with my preference eventually thou.
Labor stopped being for the people after Gough. Hawke was ok, Keating was a progressive torry in a red suit. Labor since then has flailed at the neo-con tactics.
That they did this to the CMFEU is not surprising. The CMFEU deserves it thou. They fucked over other unions to form it. Bring back the BLF.
Just vote Green. They’re kinda nuts, but generally in a positive manner.
This is my thinking most of the time.
I think they stopped a long time before, just quietly, when they knifed Jack Lang… who ended up the same way Gough did.
They’ve played a lot of shitty politics where they’ve voted with the LNP against perfectly reasonable government policies. They’re cunts too.
The sight of rank and file members, I assume suffering Stockholm Syndrome, protesting alongside their captors running the Corrupt Fucking Mafia Extortion Union turned my stomach.
Corrupt organisation complains about being mistreated.
I’m in awe.
They voted with the Liberal government less frequently than Labor does from opposition in the post-Gillard era.
The reason not to vote for the greens is because they water down their policies to vote with shit Labor ones with some window dressing changes (on both climate and housing), not because they vote against Labor in order to represent the policy positions they presented to the electorate when they were voted in.
On the CFMEU, I don’t get how the union leadership circled the wagons around people’s right to not be disciplined for taking bribes.
Taking bribes is toxic to the whole idea of unionism - it puts the private interests of the bribed official above the collective interests of members.
Whilst the criminal matters have yet to be finalised in court, they can defend their position inside the union if the defence is literally “I didn’t do it”, but less so if the defence is “I got the money, but it was for some other thing”.
Why would a construction union boss be privately receiving sums from a construction company? It might not be prosecuted fully but it’s still wrong.
The union exec should have been asking if they got money at all. If yes, gone. Clear your desks, go back out on the tools.
They didn’t do that, and so a broom has to be put through the place.
Wait so what was the alternative? Slap on the wrists, tell them to stop and keep on going? The whole union is absolutely and completely f*cked and needs to be completely restructured and changed before it can be allowed to actually represent individuals.
Worked a treat for the banks after the financial services royal commission.
whataboutism is just a poor argument…
Oh I’m just shit-stirring. They should be taking down the corrupt union.
Yeah, I’m in the “yes, and” rather than “either, or” camp on that too.
They’re politicians too. And from the same era of professional politicians that have been captured by capital and have fuck all real world experience. And they suffer from a terrible watermelon problem that shoots for perfect socialism in one step ahead of progressive and manageable change.
I just prefer their idea of not destroying koala habitat over digging a hole in the ground for more thermal coal that is easily replaced by renewables.
If you look at the rallies, nobody is saying anyone has a right to be corrupt. They are saying the government shouldn’t pass a law to place a professional body into administration because of it. There are already laws to deal with corruption, including institutional corruption.
I think Setka’s a scumbag but if the Liberal and Labor parties want to pass laws to put organisations into administration for systemic corruption, they’d be better off starting with their own state parties.
Charge them under the existing laws if there’s any actual evidence. That’s what they are there for.
I also see a lot of people saying “the greens voted against x” when they actually didn’t. Often they will vote against preliminary shit or say they wont vote for it in it’s proposed state to try and move labour on parts of legislation.
For some reason people seem to think the Greens should just be a rubber stamp for any old garbage that Labour throws out there. You want to talk about combined efforts - the combo of tory fearmongering and labour self-entitlement has seeped deep into the consciousness of voters in this country. People cant fucking think for themselves. It’s pathetic.
