Australians, thankfully, are not Americans. My boss was in Colorado during the election and would go into diners or cafes for breakfast. They’d be playing Fox and she laughed out loud at some of the incoherent things Trump oe the hosts were saying - the people around her would get hostile.
There’s just a level of media literacy and critical thinking that people who came through our education system have that a lot of Americans do not. Their schools are broken.
They only have to convince their constituents to vote for them though, not the entire country.
I for one have been very happy to have an independent representing me. They actually ask questions in question time that are important to be answered instead of just a soundbite for the news.
Trump also said he is giving “serious consideration” to giving Australia an exemption because of our trade record with them. Maybe he wants Albanese to suck his pin dick a bit more before he gives the exemption.
I think you’re over estimating Australian media and critical thinking - the trouble is that like-minded people talk to like minded people and can’t imagine why anyone would think anything else.
Take Dutton for example - I can’t imagine who would think he would be good for the country . … but I don’t know people that watch Sky News, read the Daily Tele or live in country areas of QLD, WA, etc…. Remember how most polls thought the Yes referendum was a done deal before Dutton and Co started throwing misinformation about? Obviously plenty of people that are receptive to his message.
So the terror tried to instigate an antisemitism incident at Cairo Takeaway in Enmore yesterday and failed. 13 tweet thread, and the account mentioned in them has more pictures.
(As an aside, this is maybe why we can’t fully drop twitter links here yet, as much as I would appreciate the intervention to help stop my addiction)
Ok but a lot of Australians have had negative attitudes and beliefs towards first nation people since 1788. For sure it was a victory for them but a referendum is not the same as voting for a certain party on a 2pp in your local seat.
In QT this week the Libs are trying to attack Labor for not doing enough on antisemitism, which isn’t going to appeal to some voters in the swing seats they need, but they have obviously decided its time for a War on Terror/Tampa moment to cut through.
