It's OK to be White and other dogwhistles - the Australian politics thread

If this guy had gone to my school he would have changed his name decades ago.

That’s my electorate and exactly the text message I sent the moment his corflutes went up. It’s like high school bullies aren’t even trying these days.

Was up the coast for the last week, go the Trumpet ads were just mental on the TV. Every set of ad breaks there was either a short attack ad of a few seconds, or one that went for a few minutes. Was ready to shoot myself when I was watching Midway. Don’t get how people actually believe all the shit they’re spouting. They embrace Trump politics despite the fact that he has the lowest approval rating of any President in his first 100 days in office ffs

Well let’s see if Harry Fong likes it.

Maybe the strategy is make Dutton leader, people dislike him so much they forget greens and independent and Labor, we return to a 2 party country and they have better odds next time?

Never ascribe to malice anything that can be explained by stupidity.

I do subscribe to that idea to that to a certain extent, but you always have to be careful not to miss the slow game fuckwittery. The libs do play games with the bigger picture items. They do want to kill medicare. They do want to destroy the public service. They do want to privatise every government service. They do want us splintered and competing against each other. They just know they have to boil us slow.

Dutton is just a moron though.

Strongly agree with this. The Libs know certain ideas have to be fought for over multiple election cycles to become election winners. Abbott played this game in 2010 and 2013 with climate denialism and refugee politics, and now Dutton is trying a very similar playbook.

You can trace it back to Howard as well. His vision of Australia didn’t become reality overnight.

I’m starting to think they’re bombing their own campaign on purpose, too. A minority Labor government with the Greens as the kingmakers will force Labor to be progressive. Another majority will mean Albanese just does the same thing as the last three years,.

No way are they bombing their own brand this hard.

  1. they’ve had very favourable conditions to win an election since before Labor even won government. Until the campaign started they were favoured to win. They could have won by running a coherent, small target campaign.

  2. these guys are morons. Even if I accept what you guys say about previous Coalition parties playing multi-governmental-cycle election strategies (which, sorry, I don’t) this is not the same party as back then. All the wets are gone and those guys were the brains of the operation. These right wingers can’t think past the next 3 days, let alone the next 3 years.

That’s a fair argument. You’re very likely right. On the same token, it will be strange if Dutton survives the leadership if he’s given a heavy election defeat.

Trying to neg 1 in 3 Australians. That’s some tactic.

If this was the NFL you’d think Dutton was trying to tank to get a favourable draft position. Perhaps he’s got a cushy private sector job lined up and doesn’t want any chance of being prime minister.

No one could be this incompetent
