Macarthur FC Thread

Something else to laugh about,McArthur have been emailing people in the area and offering FREE tickets to the Jets game this weekend.

They may be top of the league but they have to give away tickets to their home games?

Thats a slap in the face to their fans(all 8) who bought a season ticket.

I know Macarthur have struggled to get a fanbase and a lot of that is their fault, but sports across the board are struggling for crowds at the moment.

Didn’t stop them charging ridiculous prices to away supporters

JAYFC’s contribution to Macarthur’s ā€œName the Mascotā€ Twitter thread is incredible. He’s back on form!

The FFA wanted to boot the Phoenix based on failing metrics.

What do Macarthur and Western United bring to the table that Wellington don’t - and I surely don’t think they’d be meeting the metrics the FFA used to have.

I assume the APL have their own set of metrics, but I daresay both Macarthur and Western are falling well short.

They’re 1 & 2 on the table, that’s some good metrics.

They’re also probably the two clubs with the biggest potential for regional growth over the next decade.

The only metric that matters…

  • 11 Australian teams: $40m/year cash from broadcast rights. $3.6m/team.
  • 1 New Zealand team: $0.2m/year cash from broadcast rights.

It’s just nowhere where it needs to be, and there’s no indication of it getting any better.

While I agree the NZ rights are obscenely low, probably not even covering the costs of shuttling teams back and forth.

It’s not like if you relocate the team to Canberra or Hobart you automatically pickup extra $s from the Aus rights. Indeed the number may well be zero.

Definitely was NSFW, which is why I didn’t post the photo of it. But he offered the name ā€œCumā€ and had at least a dozen likes last time I checked. It’s probably been deleted by now.

Some talk online today about Macarthur being in some financial trouble. No one saying anything concrete. All hearsay for now.

Antonis Martis is returning to fc Midtjylland

They were originally backed by the very wealthy Walker family, but then sold quite discretely to some local business people. I know they made a tonne of corporate sponsorship’s, but no idea the amount they made/make from those…

Has been a tough start, playing only in Covid ravaged seasons which have given them crappy opportunities to attract crowds and interest generally. I know stacks of people who were originally quite excited about going to games, mostly all families, who have yet to go because of Covid related things…and now general apathy towards doing anything deemed ā€˜not essential’.

If it’s true it’s not hard to believe, they were always on the back foot with Covid. As are all teams I guess

They’ve certainly not done themselves any favours, though. That fiasco with the pitch made me wonder how serious the club actually was. Not to mention a forgettable off-season where they looked destined to be well out of finals contention.

Wouldn’t surprise me. As mentioned above, they’ve started in the worst possible situation with COVID which has affected all teams, but they’re behind the 8 ball to begin with as they’re trying to attract a fan base.

However, the club from Day 1 seems to have been so badly managed, I’m surprised it’s not being run by the Liberal Government. They’re more successful on the field than North Queensland and New Zealand Knights, but as badly managed off the park as them. Hell, I’d argue that North Queensland Fury attracted a larger supporter base than Macarthur.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they fold and Canberra walks in.

Interesting wording

For all we know, it could mean enough players have been struck down with Covid that they can’t play. I find it very hard to trust Macarthur’s management at the moment.

Those out because they’re COVID +ve + those not meeting vaccination requirements?
