I rewatched it a couple of days ago, still kicks ass.
How did you fare with the rest of your John Woo cinematic journey?
Bumped up against an issue with getting decent subtitles so it’s kind of in limbo right now.
Which pictures are you chasing currently?
Last night I had a rewatch of ‘A Better Tomorrow II’ - certainly a much bigger and more complicated story than the original, and one of the best character introductions in any movie (the respect the rice scene) but there is a special magic in the first film that couldn’t be recaptured in any subsequent sequel or prequel.
I thought Kung Fu Hustle was older?
My copy of Hero has badly done subtitles and this is the first time I’ve seen this scene with an English dub.
Jet Li, Donny Yen, the over the top, yet well incorporated, Wuxia wire work, the choreography, and the incredibly well incorporated musical score that the scene wouldn’t work without … one of my favourite scenes in all of movieland.
And if you’ve never watched Hero you really should. It’s a visually sumptuous movie. It’s up there with The Fall for aesthetics.
Tony Leung steals the movie (like he does in every movie), outstanding work in a great movie.
Fuck. I still haven’t seen In The Mood For Love of Red Cliff.
In the Mood for Love has to be close to my favourite movie ever.
I love it so much I got this last year after dreaming about it for a long time.
Hectic!
I bought the Wong Kar Wai criterion box a while back. So good.
I saw it for the first time earlier this year at Golden Age because they were doing a retrospective. Absolutely incredible film, every single shot is perfectly crafter and I legitimately would not have changed a single frame of that film.
I haven’t seen that in years. Might have to fire it up tonight!
I’m thinking the same thing
Is that an actual movie or just random, beautifully filmed scenes put together to show off new TV’s in a shop?
