Movie Thread VII: Adrian's Revenge

Keen to see it too, it was directed by the guy who did the Senna documentary so it should be good.

I heard from someone at work who saw it at a film festival that it was very good.

The Senna documentary was good entertainment but played it fast and loose with the truth. The deification of Senna and the demonising of Prost was simplistic in the extreme.

With a subject as flawed as Maradonna, he can’t fall into that trap again.

That’s playing to its audience though isn’t it?

Well, Senna is a god, and Prost is a prick, so it was nice and truthful.

Book Smart is a very good film.

Flopped at the box office at the time as well. One of those movies that gained ground as time went by.

Hallelujah.

I thought Miller and Warner were fighting a legal battle and this would never happen.

I need new pants.

If it’s even close to as good as Fury Road, I’m excited.

Saw it last night. It’s ace. Catch it before it finishes up.

Fuck yes.

Just watched Danger Close.

Didn’t clock Travis Fimmel at all. But he still did Ragnar’s crazy eye thing which had me wondering who the actor was.

Maybe Fimmel’s crazy eye thing is his signature like Cruise’s constant grinning and Harrison Ford’s sad puppy dog eye thing.

Danger close was excellent. Few little things bugged me though, too many yank guns, and way too much unpunished dissent. IRL Ragnar would have slapped the shit out of the little cunt.

Once upon a time in hollywood, 6/10.

There was literally no point to the movie, other than to further stroke Tarantinos ego.

Damn I was looking forward to it. I’m meant to be seeing it this weekend

I really liked it. Thought it was great!

I thought it was very meandering and self indulgent, but I think if I had more than a passing knowledge of some of the real life characters it was based on I would have enjoyed it more.

Nothing against you @Jabbatron so please don’t take this personally. More of a comment in general, but I really hate the criticism that something is self indulgent when it comes to art. All art is self indulgent I believe. It’s exactly what the artist wants to do and achieve with a chosen subject. It’s not and shouldn’t be built by committee or by second guessing what the audience might want. It’s the artist’s vision. Sometimes it works and connects with the audience in a big, widespread and popular way and sometimes it doesn’t. But it’s always self indulgent.

All art is self-indulgent, but if it doesn’t have a point then it’s nothing but masturbation.

The only point of Robbie’s character was to have a hot chick in the movie.
