so in the last year i’ve had maybe 2 Virgin flights delayed for reasons that were Virgin related. The others are more based on weather etc. But in saying that, one of my staff has had about 6 of his Virgin flights delayed. I think it comes down to luck to tell you the truth. Qantas is generally good, just definitely more pricey
Unless you like not reaching your destination on time I would avoid JetStar at all costs. If I had a dollar for every time I heard the words; “I have to lodge a claim because JetStar cancelled/delayed my flight” I would lying on a beach somewhere warm without having to worry about money.
With all the Jetstar talk my last two cancellations have been with Virgin and Qantas. February Virgin gave me an alternative flight the next day (accommodation at my work’s cost) Gold Coast to Sydney, and then two weeks ago Qantas cancelled my morning flight from Port Macquarie to Sydney and booked me on the afternoon flight.
Actually in saying that, I’ve also had two cancelations with virgin but they’ve shifted the flights to within 30 minutes of the original flight, so there were no issues there. Definitely helps I fly early morning during the week, so there’s planes going out every 30 mins
I’ve sat on the tarmac at Tullamarine for about 5 hours in a Jetstar plane. I’ve also been stuck in Melby for an extra night on a weekender. In my experience it’s about as reliable as a train trip across India.
Looking for somewhere to go for a week or two before Xmas. Something that isn’t going to break the bank would be nice (lol). I’m thinking Phuket or somewhere similar.
I made the decision on my last trip that I was over going places by myself, unless I was specifically going for an event. But I’m so burnt out right now that I need to have a proper break, so sitting in a beach and getting drunk is sounding great right now.
We have stayed up in Nai Yang at the Slate Resort, the last couple of times much more chilled than the main areas good food both inside and outside the resort.
Still a heap of Russians but not as bad as Patong et al.
Highly recommended for a relaxing eat drink and read by a pool trip.
Nai Yang beach is great as it is close to the airport so you don’t have to fight the traffic and plenty of quieter places to chill on the beach and watch the sunset.
Walking down the beach toward the airport is a good way to start the day and the sunsets are great in the evening with quite a few relatively cheap restaurants and bars along the beach.
Not a huge amount there but has everything you need including about 100 weed shops that have opened up in the last year or so since we were there last.
Black Ginger at the Slate has some of the best Thai food I have had.
