Europe still do passport stamps . I haven’t used my Aussie one for a while but my British one is full of stamps.

I’ve just had to try and find dates of my international travel, and the last few years is near impossible with the electronic passports
You need to use this App
Yep I swear by that… brilliant app
Fuck me. That’s horrible.
We stopped off there on our latest drive back from NSW to WA and everything about it was horrid.
It smelt bad, water tasted wrong, it was 40° at night, the wind was full of dust, it would be a terrible place to live.
We packed up before sunrise and left as soon as we could.
We could use the auto gates because we had our kids with us.
We got a sticker on one of the pages of our passport, not a stamp.
That’s a good drive. I’ve always wanted to drive from Perth to Broome with the fam, seems like some pretty coastline on the way.
We’ve done the drive 4 times from WA to NSW or the other way.
It’s great. The last time we did it we took our time and took some detours and stayed extra time in a couple of places.
Port Augusta through to Broken Hill is pretty sweet.
Anyone been to Fiji?
After over 10 years of taking sightseeing holidays around Europe and the US, the missus declared she would settle for nothing less than a resort vacation where you do nothing.
I worry that I’d get bored after 20 minutes at a resort, but decided to give it a go and booked 6 days at Fiji Intercontinental.
Easily the most expensive hotel I’ve stayed in (AU$820 per night), but at least the flight was cheap.
I tried booking a return airport to hotel transfer, but it costs AU$330 for two 50 minute trips for a private driver and not much less for a coach (AU$200 or so from memory).
So do I just wing it and show up at the airport, and haggle with taxi drivers for a set price? The internet tells me it should be around $35 each way, but is that outdated advice?
Any tips would be appreciated, on airport to hotel transfer as well as general tips for a Fiji holiday.
Thanks in advance.
Not done Fiji but did Vanuatu (and have done many other Asian cities) and have always found a transfer money well spent. You know they will be there no matter the delays etc, they’ll have enough space for your luggage (they’ll ask prior what you are bringing)
Suggest jumping on google and looking at Fiji airport transfer companies. Can probably find a few independent ones that will be much cheaper than going direct through the hotel, but hopefully give you a bit of piece of mind having something pre-booked rather than winging it once you get there?
From the hotel should be able to look into tours or day trips to get some time out of the resort. Most will include pickup and drop off from your accommodation. Usually better booking direct through their websites but can also use sites like Viator to find stuff.
Been there twice but long time ago and on the opposite coast
Flying to Melbourne in January and want to lock in a decent price in the next couple of weeks. Are any of the domestic airlines better than the rest currently?
Since Virgin got rid of their A330s, Qantas is generally the better option.
Not a huge difference on the 737s but QF are generally better with inclusions at least on the cross continental routes but wouldn’t spend significantly more on them especially on the shorter flights.
Definitely do not go with Jetstar.
Bag drop doesn’t open until 2 hours before flight departure. If you’re travelling alone then that isn’t much of an issue but if you’re in a group booking it’s not ideal, especially if there’s no food and beverage options prior to going through security screening.
I almost always fly Virgin. I find the quality of service to be a whole lot better than Qantas.
Its a one and a bit hour flight. Unless youre on the piss it doesnt make a difference. Go the cheapest option. I fly multiple times a month to Melbourne and by the time the foodcart does the lopp, youre prepping for landing
Virgin staff don’t seem to feel put out when you ask them to something that is part of their job description
It’s not a comfort thing - guess I should’ve specified. I just want the flight to be on time and get me to that awful place in one piece. Was reading an article that said Virgin was at something like 80 per cent on time departures, which seemed low for sure.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I always preferred virgin when flying for business (first or second flight of the morning, returning usually 6-8pm at night).
Luckily I’ve lost all status and not had to fly in years for work, cannot stand it. Also means my opinion is very out dated, outside of avoid Jetstar.
