Newcastle Jets: rap battles pending

Three and a half years is the epitome of optimism. I can only guess it has taken so long to formalise this because he held out for a long.deal like this.

He was the one who signed Ibini to Vancouver which I hadn’t realised. I wonder if he’ll try to sign him again.

Seems fine on paper but that’s one hell of a long contract.

Decent signing. Vancouver is a proper side and Wiki reckons he was head coach for five years, in which they made it to the playoffs three times and to a CONCACAF Champions League semi final.

Does contract length even matter anymore at this stage? How often have a-league managers stayed long enough to negotiate a second contract?

Well it presumably affects how much the club have to pay him out in 9 months or whatever.

Exactly, if he’s not fired for misconduct, breach of contract or something similar he will need to be paid out the remaining value of the contract if he’s dismissed.

So that’s potentially Melbourne City, Brisbane and Adelaide players, staff, referees and all their families exposed.

Well done FFA

Looks like you could narrow it down to one of the internationals.

Interesting they are paying so much. It’s a good sign for the health of the game.

Fingers crossed. Comp really needs a good Jets team and strong club. No other city has a daily paper that gives their club such a fair go as does the Newcastle Herald.

Apparently in serious financial trouble. Have been handed a breach notice by the FFA.

I know many fans would hate it (me included), but what chance is there of a Jets/Mariners merger?

I also thought the inclusion of a central coast team sandwiched between Sydney and Newcastle in an 8 team fledgling league was a weird one.

NO

Nah, just sell the CCM and Newcastle licences to Canberra & Wollongong and we can divvy up the cash between the clubs.

If you cant make Newcastle work, you wont make Wollongong or Canberra work.

I was clearly joking but if someone wants to stump up $5m licence fee I reckon we need to take it and see if they can make it work.

Radical idea but would expansion right now actually help us fund these troubled clubs?

If expansion leads to more viewers per game and, in turn, a better TV deal, then theoretically yes. It’s just that extra money wouldn’t kick in until the clubs are in the league which would be the 21-22 season at the earliest and more likely the season after that. Plus you’d need some time to see whether the teams actually have translated to viewers so that extra TV deal would be even further away.

So in other words it isn’t a short or even medium term solution. Unless Optus stump up the cash on good will alone.
