During the season? How dare he?!

I know, right. He writes 2 comic strips a week, how can he need a holiday?
I hope Peter Dutton refuses him re-entry into the country, bloody freeloader.

Just as a distraction until kick-off, and a further celebration of how utterly dominant we are over the rest of the basket cases in this adorable little pissant league of ours, take time to reflect that Perth are probably the second best run club in the country.

They’re probably only there due to having an ex-SFC CEO, director of football, and head coach (who was laughably hounded out of WSW). But they’re also owned by possibly the most ironically named man in Australian football, a certified fucking idiot, in Tony Sage.

Could you ever imagine Sir Traktor or Scotty Barlow posting either of those first two bits of absolute drivel (unnecessarily and so unprofessionally responding to interwebs rumours, prior to having undertaken any form of due diligence)? And then, despite having communicated from O/S just fine on the first two occasions, going into hiding “due to his travels“ only to reveal it’s all gone to shit in such cowardly fashion?

I joked earlier about Sage and the east end fraudster getting on famously, but had forgotten about that time the AFP actually raided his Perth office or that he apparently had to negotiate a settlement with the ATO over allegedly fraudulent tax dealings by his company Cape Lambert. They definitely have a lot in common so in hindsight there’s no surprise he was so willing to explore an opportunity for more creative accounting, as obviously dodgy as it seemed, if there was any chance of falling arse backwards into more money. And of course we all remember the celery cap and how Sage somehow avoided taking any responsibility while Jason Brewer was left to fall on his sword.

We’ve covered SFC’s big turning point a few times lately, here and on the SBS pod. On one hand it’s still brilliant to see how well run our football club is, on the other that shining daylight between us and the rest may also just be their own blinding incompetence.

Buh Buh Buh they are the premiers :joy:

Like I always point out to my glory friends, that pretty much the only reason glory have had an upturn is due to ex Sydney FC (& WSW mostly former Sydney FC) personnel.

I thought the only reason people didnt want this sale to go thru was because they are scared of change

Yeah the fact you can’t get change from a bitcoin :joy:

Tony Sage being Tony Sage in shocking development

The question is though. Why are sportspeople exempt from being stood down?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending Tony Sage here, but this is happening all around the world at the moment. Many businesses have stood workers down and mothballed the business until the restrictions are lifted. Why should football clubs be treated differently to other businesses?
This isn’t a case of the league being shut down and they’re still training/working as normal, this is a case of their place of employment not being able to provide the work for which they are employed to carry out.
If the shutdown is for a month then the season will conclude in June. Don’t a-league player contracts expire May 31 with the players either on holidays or moving on? If that is the case and the season does play through June then the players shouldn’t expect to get paid for it then. Pausing all contracts and moving them right for 1 month actually makes some sense and will prevent an absolute shitfight come June.

Obviously that is something that would have to be a universal decision by the league, clubs and players. Tony Sage, by going out on his own like this, has gone full Sage.

I would have thought the issue is because their contracts have a defined end date - most employment contracts dont

So this has appeared under an article on the world game
looks like Tony forgot to switch accounts.

At it’s current rate of growth who knows what kind of decision Full Sage will make. There needs to be a clear and coherent strategy put in place to restrict it’s growth. There needs to be a flattening of the curve before it gets completely out of hand.
Don’t believe me, these are the confirmed cases over the last month and a half:
12/02/2020: Agrees to sell Perth Glory to LFE. Price: The role of Chairman for LFC and some of their own crypto-currency.
25/02/2020: The sale collapses as LFE are run by a shonky fraud, their crypto currency is worthless and there was never the funds to complete the deal.
28/02/2020: Perth Glory announce that all players and staff are being stood down and will not be paid while the season remains suspended and sees the PFA threaten legal action. There are reports that, at that time, a joint announcement by the A-League the clubs outlining similar action was expected to be made prior to April 1.
29/03/2020: Sends itself a message on Facebook using it’s own account and signing off as “Ellen”.

This is going to sound stupid, but from a financial point of view, have the clubs really lost that much money? 90% of the season has been played out, the clubs don’t receive anything from the finals series, so most of their income should have been received shouldn’t it?

It’s paid quarterly, and 3/4 has been paid apparently, from what Adam Peacock mentioned in the latest Fox Football podcast. That roughly aligns with how far along the season we are.

“It” being brodast revenues - and this thing could potentially drag on past the Q3 payment in July as well.

In any case, 3/4 of their yearly revenue has been paid which is a decent chunk in any case, compared to AFL and NRL that literally have only started their seasons. Plus, throw in the expectation that season will continue to be played at a further date, it shouldn’t be that big of a hit that clubs would need to stand down players should they?

I do understand that there shouldn’t be an exception for footballers, especially considering the amount of money they make in comparison the general population.

All those FIFA dollars might finally do some good

Glory article in Telegraph (FFA lent them $1m). Can anyone post the text?
