I am posting this a few minutes too late now since Kõln just scored to go top of 2.Bundesliga, but going into the weekend, Magdeburg were top of the division without winning a single home game.
This is their home record:
This is glorious and I hope it catches on, or at least leads to VAR usage being reduced.
Although considering the arse kissing that FFA/APL did by being the first league to implement it, I highly doubt we’d even contemplate touching VAR.
I started following football in Chile and because I’m an anti-bandwagoner, decided on following the fortunes of a less fashionable (and successful) team. I got on board with Primera B side Deportes Temuco, who are quite fairly shit indeed.
They lose almost every week so I never feel disappointed. On the odd occasion they come away with a win, it makes my week.
The new season starts, first game of Copa Chile group stage and its a 5-0 loss. Business as usual, on to next week!
Pretty cool to be fair, any plans of getting over to see a match live?
Same reasoning behind why I have always followed Tottenham
It would be fun, if I go over there at some point I’ll do my best to time it so I could.
They’re the southernmost located team in the top 2 divisions and south of Chile is one of my favourite places in the world after just one short visit there.
I keep an eye on Arsenal De Sarandi, currently of the Argie second division - towards the bottom of one group last season. Went to the Copa Sudamericana final second leg where they won. The most bonkers thing I’ve ever seen at a football stadium happened when a guy used the long bunting running from the upper deck to lower deck to transit down! Lunatics.
UEFA have announced the 2027 U21 Euro’s will be co-hosted by (drum roll)…
Albania and Serbia.
If a team takes a quick free kick and pumps it long with the ball still rolling, and 2/3 touches later its a goal … would VAR call it back for the ball not being stopped for the FK?
Surely they would have to call it back. It’s things like that which really need to be tidied up.
Things that need to be tidied up.
Taking throw ins from the spot the ball went out
Taking free kicks from the spot where the offence was caused.
Players retreating 10 metres as soon as the whistle is blown for a foul and not running from more than 10 metres away to stand one inch in front of the ball so as to prevent a free kick.
Grabbing another players shirt. There is no circumstance where this is acceptable.
Harassing the goalkeeper at a corner.
In U6s through U16s, every second throw gets called as a foul throw (arms didn’t go all the way back behind the head, toes over the line etc.), so kids must grow up thinking that throw-ins are sacrosanct.
The number of dodgy throws in professional leagues, kids must be thinking “wtf, bro?”
This needs to be expanded to any sort of delaying shithousery. I swear when I was growing up there were way more cards for kicking the ball away to prevent quick free kicks, nowadays it’s become an artform to pick the ball up while retreating and then toss it over the head of the bloke wanting to take it to one of his teammates miles off the mark, or to do all those sly little backheels and touches to keep the ball rolling and away from the spot of the foul and the team trying to take it.
Once the ref blows a foul and indicates which way, it should be an instant yellow card for any opponent who touches the ball prior to the FK being taken.
That’ll do me
It’s situations like this that we can take a leaf out of the AFL rule book.
The offending team gets marched 50m if they do not return the ball immediately to the fouled player.
Crossing the mark is also a 50m penalty.
I’d have no problem if a similar rule was enforced in football.
They tried that.
Cheating is a fundamental part of football. Nothing is changing that anytime soon.
Oh i would love for VAR to overturn a goal because the throw in was not taken from the right spot!
Theyd take 10 minutes, get the offside lines on the throw in and overturn Diego Costa’s 55m rabonna Big Blue winner in the 90+5th minute because Grant took the throw-in 1cm ahead of the mark.
This is something I see an example of related to this current derby just past, but I have seen it elsewhere in various discussions of leagues and I can’t quite understand the mentality.
I saw one WSW fan saying that “the Sydney fans celebrated a draw like they had just won, it says something about their loser mentality”
What would any football fan do if their team grabbed two goals at the death to steal a win out of the hands of a heated rival team? Why would you NOT go absolutely bananas, it’s the kind of ridiculous moment we all dream to be a part of.
For people to pretend like it’s some kind of lame thing, I wonder what they would do if it was their team doing the same thing at home. It would be a sad life if they didn’t feel any inspiration or joy from such a ridiculous fun moment.
