What does he owe a club that failed to pay his wages for a few months? It’s pretty hard to be 100% committed to the club when they’ve shown that they’re not 100% committed to you.
If they were playing home games then the option to do a Dennis Bergkamp would be there and you would expect him to play. As that is not an option I can’t blame him for not wanting to fly to the other side of the country and be away from his family for at least a month to play for a club that at the first sign of trouble failed to uphold their commitments.
