Round 11 - Sydney FC vs Perth - 8/1/2025

Takes some balls to put a pineapple on us for a clean sheet win yesterday. Congrats.

Happy to have the three points but you really can’t take anything else from the game. They are just awful.

Scary to think how bad we’d be without Lolley, pretty much the only player in the team who can dribble, pass, or shoot.

Feels like, if we don’t make a signing in January, the back four we finished with tonight is likely to be what we have until the end of the season with De Jesus and Gurd as the back ups

Disagree with the dribble and pass. Granted we were up against witches hats but some great triangles and recycling. Sena, Ouahim, Caceras, Lolley, Holman all looked the goods. Final pass and finishing could use some work though. Backs looked good coming forward, klimala as always with good signs but wasteful. Not all doom and gloom. See what happens next week though

Farrrk I completely forgot this game was on. Stupid midweek games.

I was definitely exaggerating but it feels like it at times. Agree Klimala actually had a good game too, earned the penalty, hit the post etc.

Sena and Ouahim were just alright, they can improve.

Thought Grant looked fine at CB and made a good tackle or two.

How often do teams have 5 games with 2 clean sheets and still have 9 goals conceded?

Neither were really drawn out and it has been butchered.

I was sitting near him. Felt sorry for the bloke.

I told him to cheer up. He told me to fuck off.

Fair.

Really don’t want to be the Negative Nancy cos there were most definitely some positives tonight and any clean sheet / 3-0 win is always a step in the right direction.

But it was far from convincing, Perth still threatened on the counter as everyone else does, and we were about 12 combined inches away from being 2-1 down and in for an avalanche of goo before a handball call that literally no one in the stadium saw or called for that settled it our way.

System was better than expected pre-game but we’re still going to be tested by anyone not named Brisbane or Perth.

Not sure even we could have conceded 2 goals to a team with an xG of 0.15! Agree it wasn’t all roses though, were incredibly pedestrian in possession at times.

I’m still in disbelief the net didn’t ripple with the Blair turn and shot, then they had the header from a corner that barely drifted past the far post not long after. Don’t remember HDM making an actual save, but those 2 combined were squeaky bum time.

It’s not really negative, honestly we were still very bad at times and looked like we had no idea. If Joe Lolley was out injured I think we may have scraped a win, but could well have been a draw. He was by far the most lively and above all effective player. Sena/Ouahim/Caceres are good for some short passing around together and a flick here and there but had very little cutting edge with almost everything they did, and they all had so much time to shine in a game like this.

But it’s nice to know we aren’t Brisbane or Perth tier bad, because for a few games there I thought we were playing at about their level.

Yeah I have to agree, on balance it feels mostly like a reflection of Perth’s inability rather than our own ability. Outside of Lolley we weren’t really offering anything across the park.

Happy for that defensive line to stay another week. They weren’t really tested tonight.

Keen to see more of Rhyno at CB, could pro-long his career for a couple more seasons if it comes off.

How many games since a red card? That’s something too.
