Round 20 - Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC - 12/3/23

Well he has started every game for like 2 years at least so he must be good right?

I was about to post that Zawada will be nailed on to score at least 1 today, he is too strong in the air for our defence.

King getting schooled there.

That is such a lazy goal to concede

King needs to do much better there.

Must be nice to have a competent striker

Zawada was too clever for our defence. Zawada vs King is way more favourable to them than Zawada vs either CB.

King is also rather rusty.

Conceding is pretty much part of our game plan at this point. Wellington though are pretty bad in defence just like us, definitely far from over.

This is one of the more dominant performances I’ve seen from us this season. And we’re still behind.

Yeah, I feel like we’ve done reasonably well. The Nix have had one good move and scored from it.

We need to pump more attacks down the right. Lolley is looking sharp for the first time in about a month.

For a team with one tall outfield player we sure do aimless cross into the box a lot

There’s no general plan in the final third other than give it to the wide men for a cross (or a cut-in and shot for Lolley).

But our attack is so very predictable. Playing Caballo as a winger is a stunt, I’m not sure what it’s supposed to achieve that couldn’t be achieved with an actual forward.

Next week, Segecic needs to start on the left. King is too rusty and with any luck, Corica is realising that Caballo is not really so useful as a left winger, when he’s going to be closed down a lot more.

We miss Burgess a lot too, you can see how we are lacking any creativity that we don’t really get from anyone else.

Good save there from redmayne, not something i have said a lot this season

Mak to lw, kucharski into striker, segecic in for Caceres, caballo to lb

Do it corica

This all makes sense. I suppose we aren’t quite at ā€˜season is on the line’ yet but we’re pretty close. A loss here is a big blow. We haven’t looked too much like scoring so may need to make a few changes at half time.

EDIT: also didn’t realise Segecic wasn’t on the bench, no excuses for Corica to not make the call and get him back for the second half!

Yep, and the fact we look good is probably just a function of Wellington being so comfortable to let us have the ball in their half.

Would be a bit ambitious bringing Sega back when he’s not on the bench and is probably still in Uzbekistan

You could see Caballo as a left midfielder if we we’re playing with two up front but as a winger I don’t see the logic so much. He’s not one to dribble to create a shot or passing opportunity.

That was for next week, should have specified

For now kucharski on, mak left, caballo lb, king off

I’d even go further and get Caceres off for Parsons
