They’re a special breed
They’re a special breed
Heathen scum with the comprehension skills of a dead newt who was refereed to as “Dumb Dumb Head, The Stupid Newt” whilst still alive.
ALL HAIL THE SECOND HALF ANNOUNCEMENT!
I’m blocked, can somebody share the full image?
Vince in the SMH is claiming the crowd will be approx 35k which is not to shabby at all
Hey as a devout paxist, I resemble those things
We’ll see, last derby both upper tiers were like 70% sold, this time one hasn’t even gone on sale at all, the other is like 30% full. Can’t see us getting close to the crowd last derby but I’d take anything above 30k.
Hate to say it but I wish we would change the “F— off Western Sydney scum” to “F— off Wanderer scum”.
Yeah I know it’s supposed to mean “WSW supporting scum” rather than the people of Western Sydney, but why not just say that then? Why give them the ammo to claim we’re East Sydney FC?
Yeah I also know many Western Sydney based fans sing it too, but it still sticks out like a sore thumb for me.
Maybe “F— off filthy Wanderer scum” to fit the syllables needed? It’s got the bonus of adding a second unflattering adjective.
We stopped the use of “FTT” in official capacity as a fan group, so we have demonstrated our capability to change in the past. In fact it’s what sets us apart.
Love the Cove, it’s why I became a member more so than the club itself, but I do believe the chant is holding our cause back.
I don’t know if I’m alone in this and sorry if I sound like a prude, but I’ve felt this way for a while.
Second Half Announcement is a False Prophet.
All hail Pax!
THE 2ND HALF ANNOUNCEMENT IS THE WAY AND THE LIGHT!
Forsake your falseness and embrace THE LIGHT AND THE TRUTH!
99% agree with this, but there is a remaining 1% of me that finds it funny every time that they bring it up as a gotcha because they are too dense to understand this:
Sorry but just like them I think you’re completely overthinking this, We do it to antagonise their fans, it works.
Kinda wish I was as deluded as they were sometimes.
Would save having to buy drugs to get to that fantasy land in one’s head.
This 1000x re “western scum”, and any time any of us mention centrelink in regards to them (or the coasties, or no doubt Gong if it ever gets in) it just gives them ammunition for this bullshit. Our club and fanbase is multi-ethnic and primarily working class, like basically all supporter bases for football in this country. It’s not like WSW are playing against the Scots College rugby side FFS.
I see both sides, part of what makes this derby special is the way we antagonise each other, a proper derby kind of needs that spark and I think we just play it up to light that fire the same way they do to us. I don’t think it’s that big a deal, that chant isn’t exactly a huge loud one that the whole stadium gets into.
I’m sorry but nobody hears “F— off Western Sydney scum” and thinks "oh yeah, they are obviously referring to WSW fans, not the people of Western Sydney.
Yes it antagonises them but it also antagonises the people of Western Sydney, where a large proportion of our fans are based. It may not be enough to make a Sydney fan switch to WSW, but it will have an impact on potential new fans sitting on the fence.
If I was a father bringing my young family from Lidcombe or Wentworthville to watch a Sydney derby for the first time tonight, I would leave with the impression that I am not welcome to this club.
Also by your logic, their continued anti-homophobia could also be justified as it antagonises us and we continue to point out why it’s wrong.
The chant is a great promo for their supporter group, to galvanise support for their club.
I stand by my position that the chant hurts our club and hope to see it change soon.
I miss Seb…
Actually pretty much everyone who hears it who isn’t actively trying to find something to be offended by knows exactly what it means, it uses the first two of the three words that make up their name, wanderers isn’t there because cadence is a thing.
Do you have any data to suggest that it’s turning people away from our club? Anecdotes are not data. What is data is our record memberships and league high attendances despite our awful home record, this suggests that its really not holding us back at all.
Comparisons to homophobic and disability-insensitive chants are a very, very poor and ill-considered argument.
If we remove everything that might possibly be interpreted as offending someone in a race to the peak of hypersensitivity prevention, we’ll have Come on Sydney clap, clap, clap and fuck all else.
We laugh at their weak as piss latte sipping nonsense and pathetic attempt to characterise us as eastern suburbs yuppies because we know it’s patent nonsense.
Sorry if you’re offended by a single chant, but please quit with the homophobia comparisons and the claims that this single chant, used against just one opponent is somehow holding our club back, that’s a bigger insult to our collective intelligence than any cove chant is to someone from the west.
“Come on Sydney”? You are advocating pornography…
Polite applause only please.
