Round 21 - Sydney FC vs WSW - 18/3/23

Their team is literally called WESTERN SYDNEY. And their fans are literally SCUM.

NOT THAT HARD TO FIGURE OUT WHY WE SING IT YOU STUPID WESTERN SYDNEY SCUM.

What is he up to these days?

Ditched the missus :white_check_mark:

Ready to get some cold beers in me :white_check_mark:
Fired the fuck up :white_check_mark:
Trains are running and on time :white_check_mark:

It’s also ridiculously hot at the moment.

No I don’t have data to prove that our attendance or memberships are down by x percent due to the chant.

But it has been flagged as problematic many times over the years from within our own supporter base, so it remains a divisive issue to this day.

Is it a storm in a teacup? Maybe.

Does it strengthen our support and help the club? I don’t think it does.

Does it provide ammunition to WSW fans who parade it as '‘evidence’ that SFC is ESFC? Yes, for the last 10 years and probably for as long as the chant exists.

If I as a member for 13 years cringe a little when I hear the “we come from all sides of the harbour”, followed by “F— off Western Sydney scum”, it is an own goal that achieves little.

But let’s agree to disagree.

I don’t think these chants, or social media slagging matches, have any impact on our attendance FWIW. I think they give the Wanderflogs ammunition and potentially increase their derby attendances, if anything. They just frustrate me, especially when we have active members in here who have posted saying “yo I get centrelink, can we stop with the insults”

How dare you!

I agree with this. I have long felt uncomfortable when sitting near WSW-supporting families with young kids who have to put up with it. If I were them, not sure I would bring the kids back to have to hear it. Just like I used to dislike some of the very derogatory classist stuff SFC people used to chant about CCM people. (even if it was funny!)
I don’t think it affects our membership numbers and attendances but I like the idea of as much inclusion as possible across the A League, particularly getting families with young kids into the habit of coming to matches. I would much prefer chants against WSW fans rather than people from the West (who include many of us). J League style fandom is what I would like to see more of.
Forza Cove! You guys do a great job!!

Turncoats and bandwagoners, the lot of ‘em.

We’re still a few years away from them having genuine fans who didn’t:

A. support Sydney FC first
B. only start following them when they started winning towards the end of season one
C. wait for their team, completely ignoring the league when it needed them most in its infancy

I may be a cunt, but at least I’m not a fucking cunt.

Being dumb is fun, apparently.

Today’s frozen daiquiri’s are piled twice as high as the glass, gotta get stuck in before they melt and overflow. :+1:

“We pay your benefits” is an all-time line, albeit very classist

Ignorance is bliss and you’re a happy mutha fucka!

Lots of people hear “Fuck off Western Sydney scum” and understand that it’s referring to their team. I don’t recall us using it in any major capacity against Bulls or any of the WS-based sides we’ve played in the cup. It’s been led by Westie capos. I’ve seen multiple Westie Sydney FC fans chanting it. We chant the same thing at Melbourne Victory and “Wanderers” doesn’t fit the chant. Wanderers use everything as ammunition for their BS position. I’m not interested in pacifying them. I don’t join the “benefits” chant because it’s genuinely a bad take, but I’ll chant the former at derbies every time.

Look, most Panthers fans who say “Fuck Parra” mean the Eels, even if they might claim to also dislike the place. I’m not interested in impressing Wanderers fans, nor can you compare potentially “insulting all Westies” with the chant to the word retard or classiest and homophobic comment. They’ve been calling us East Sydney since day dot, regardless of our chants. Western Sydney is part of their actual name. It’s not like we’ve been chanting “Fuck off Westies” since pre-Wanderers days and that’s why they defected. Putting the blame on us for that is feeding into their crap.
