Round 22 - Sydney FC vs CCM - 30/3/24

That was the performance of a team that should be top of the table. 27 shots against the team with the best defence. Also Matthews will be playing at the next World Cup, he just gets better and better with every game.

They did mention it in the first half, and talked about Vukaā€™s record and how long it took.

Considering compared to the Wanderers run in, there a very real chance they could drop out of the six.

CCM and Wellington also play each other next weekend. Itā€™s going to be an interesting finish.

Storm Roux going off changed that game. The big kid they brought on to replace him was not good at all, which Lolley worked out on the first test, and then exploited it every chance he got. Maybe the third time he had the ball against that kid he got past him and put the ball in for the first goal.

If City had won earlier theyā€™d already be out.

Redders gave his 50th CS for us jersey to Danny, who was wearing it.

Thinking they swapped jerseys, but Redders put on his SFC jacket.

Edit Apparently Redders borrowed Kingā€™s jacket. Stealing the kidā€™s clothes?

These 4 for comparison. The stigmata clearly have the hardest run in imo

The Joel King goal from the sidelines:

We were excellent, we completely dominated them in the midfield. Only criticism is we were all a bit wasteful in front of goal (yes even the second coming Lolley fluffed a few decent chances).

Man if we beat Wellington last game we would be a decent shot at Premiers. Talay has done fantastically well, heā€™s really won me over the past few months. Weā€™re playing with some purpose and weā€™re fun to watch.

Got both No 1s.

Agreed. That goal is one Caceres wouldnā€™t have scored earlier in his career. He threw himself at the ball to get ahead of Kaltak, yet still had the presence of mind to guide the ball into the corner. Great stuff. Iā€™m so pleased to see him get a second wind under Talay.

That was a very impressive physical effort from us. I think weā€™re learning how to keep the pressure on physically for longer, instead of conking out at 60-70 minutes. Yes, the team is getting fitter, but I feel like the team is picking its moments better, or even refining the press very slightly so we donā€™t do it non-stop all the time. We ground the Mariners into dust tonight, and them losing Roux and putting Paull on at left back accelerated that. Lolley absolutely had him for breakfast every time.

Redders had kids on the opposite end of the ground screaming for him like a frigginā€™ Beatle. :blue_heart:

Against his hometown club. Couldnā€™t have been more perfect.

Except when heā€™s kicking tae fuck outta Borrello. :+1:

Agreed. Lolley got infinitely more joy outta Paull and that was crucial in us converting the dominance. Also made Paullā€™s departure (even though predominantly CB) hurt less, Matthews was indeed immense tonight, if he was always the preferred one then hats off to the academy staff.

So satisfying to see. Had a bad game in the cup final and took a bit of time to settle in but once he settled heā€™s been so so good

Poor Josh Nisbet. We made his life a living hell tonight. I almost felt sorry for him.

Congratulates self for resisting the temptation of a short joke.
