After a Polish colleague at work pointed out the correct pronunciation to me I struggle to go back to the Aussie pronunciation as it actually sounds how it is spelt. The “sciu” is similar to how we would pronounce the “sci” in science.

Dirty nappy and bins in the stadium thread, now name pronunciation in this thread. What next? Train and bus enthusiasts in the Corica thread?

I worked for a couple of brothers in the naughties who had Syrian names.

I got farken confused. Adnan/Adam and Kaleel/Karl. The first couple of weeks I was wondering who these two extra people were.

Would the “l” go toward “w” like in @Paulska’s name? Would “sczc” be the same as in Szczęsny? Based on what I know of other slavic languages, I can’t begin to imagine how “-uk” could possibly become “-ay”?

Had a mate in school who’s last name was spelt szyc and pronounced chick
