We met with O’rourke at the start of last season, the need for the league to defend their fans in situations like these was a point that was strongly made. Needless to say i won’t be holding my breath.
O’Rourke is on the latest Fox Podcast and they ask him about this issue at around 22 minutes. He talked about ensuring supporter marshals are actually used and apparently he went to Melbourne on Monday to talk to relevant people. Doesn’t seem like he thought it was that big of a deal though which is a real shame.

Cops were really good in retrospect. They were having a laugh about it (in a good way) and transparent that it was dumb security.

I’m pretty sure that’s illegal even for consenting adults in NSW.

Ye I’m pretty dissatisfied with that response, clearly haven’t learnt enough over the last 5-6 years this has been going on.
Credit where it’s due from my part, I’ve been away for matches in Melbourne (2x Aus Day bigblues), Perth (GF), Newcastle and Gosford many multiple times; and each of these I found the security were completely problem-free. Only issues I’ve ever seen in 11 years supporting Sydney have been minor scuffles against Wanderers.

and apparently not see how the issues in the first half might’ve been avoided

All the people willing to take a stand were gone by that point, is my interpretation. These guys (Edit : I mean FFA, for clarity) really still don’t have a clue, and Western still have a hell of a long way in front of them to prove they are a bonus to the comp especially when Canberra and Wollongong are still going without.
