They offer cheap land for property developers to make money off.
Ludicrous decision. If their own stadium was what got them the license over other bids, it should have only been granted once construction had started.
So you’re demanding that people commit to tens or hundreds of millions of dollars to build a stadium on the off chance that they’re granted a license? Absurdly unrealistic.
There’s a chicken/egg problem (need a stadium to get the licensee, need a license to justify the stadium build) and it’s not going to be the side on the hook for a fuck ton of money taking the leap of faith.
Is that gangrene I smell?
Canberra and Wollongong were strung along but never options as we know from Fox demands. Team 11 had similar issues with stadiums and where they were going to play. Besides offering more for the licence fee, I think Western were preferenced for the lure of building their own stadium rather than Team 11 who were relying on government funding and their acceptance into the league didnt guarantee funding
Judge them in 10 years lads, growth corridor etc.
They could have been granted a conditional license, i.e. a license for say 2023-24 season (and beyond) which would remain valid as long as they commence construction within a defined period.
If A-League clubs tended to turn profits, then you could argue that allowing them the license before they have a stadium would at least help with their cash-flow - but it’s the opposite, they’ll likely be 5-10m in losses before they commence playing in the new stadium.
From a marketing perspective, and overall business launch strategy, having the club play from day one in their new stadium would have been highly effective. Instead, they are diminishing their brand value in the first few years by playing in a shit venue in front of small crowds, and all the while suffering an identity issue based on their geography (Geelong is clearly not Western Melbourne). Imagine if WSW started off by having all their home games for the first 3 years played at Springwood in the Blue Mountains. That, by the way is 75km west of Sydney. Geelong is 75km south-west of Melbourne, for comparison.
Good idea, send NorwestWandys to Springwood and let FC look after their tennantcy@WankBest!
Just until, that hole near MoorePark comes good!
I don’t think summerhayes park is up to scratch.
Stadium issues (Hindmarsh aside) have been around a long time and there wouldn’t be a single club looking to own their own. I don’t blame the FFA for giving them a go but for the time being I think Brisbane’s experiment with Dolphin Stadium is the short term solution for all clubs.
That’s fair, but they’ve been granted a license off an idea. The most recent media report seems to indicate they are still finalising the submission to council.
Meanwhile, they are now playing in front of diminishing crowds in an area with no incentive to commit to them.
Im waiting for a Faulconbridge team to properly represent me. Springwood is a plastic franchise.
BumMan offer assistance to purveyor of sausages.
Play out the front of springwood high. Much better than summerhayes.
Ohhh, I could bore you all of the time the KHS Grade 3 beat SHS 0-19!
“And that’s where I got my goal from. I think that made it 0-13.”
Its actually a decent surface. Also fun to do cross bar challenge there with hybrid posts. This thread is way off topic.
Fuck Geelong.
Quality park but
This is a big test for O’Rourke. If they are seriously interested in reviving active support, they have to demonstrate an understanding of why this is such an issue.
