Where in Melbourne was the Uyghur place? Sounds interesting, Might give it a try next time we’re in the city

Kaynam Restaurant, although it was in Carnegie, so a bit of the way out. Was there for work and one of the guys took us out there. Really good food though. There’s another place in Burwood here that is meant to be good as well. The same guy was going to take us, but he never checked to see if it was BYO or not. Turns out the Burwood one is strictly no alcohol. We looked quite strange walking in with about 6 bottles of wine. Ended up leaving as we felt pretty stupid and may have offended some patrons.
Thx will have to check it out. ‘A bit out’ is actually in my direction (Mornington Peninsula) so that works out
the lamb kebabs were easily the best!
Persian food definitely the same, it was like a unique blend of Arab and Indian food. I dunno about any persian restaurants here though.
That’s what I find interesting about the article. China’s Belt and Road policy largely looked at sinking surplus civil/industrial manufacturing capacity into foreign ports, without significantly tweaking the already built “belt” railway connection to Europe via Russia. But post this war, they are now sinking money into Georgia, including sinking major money into the Anaklia port to open up the Caspian - Black Sea connection. Countries which have been in Russia’s sphere of influence ever since the 19th century are turning away.
Long term bodes poorly for Russia’s strategic trade network even if sanctions ever get lifted.
There’s this one in Sydney near Chinatown that I’ve never been to but heard many good things about and has been on the to do list for years as well
Apparently there’s a Ukranian restaurant in Broadway that allows you to donate directly to the Ukranian Army.
Also for every meal you buy they donate a meal to an orphan in Ukraine that’s been left homeless by Russia’s precision military bombing campaign.
The Kiev Social! I’ve been meaning to get to it for a while actually.
It’s a good article. I’ve seen plenty of photos of Pakistani produced shells being used in Ukraine, something that would have been unheard of prior to this, considering their close ties to Russia. I’m assuming there’s a handful of others floating around privately selling off stocks.
The US has officially sent it’s last aid package under Biden, to the tune of $500 million. They’re covering ammunition and a whole raft of parts etc. in the package. Fico, the Prime Minister of Slovakia has been on the warpath after gas was cut off to his country. He’s now threatening to cut off all aid to refugees in the country. The irony is that they’ve known about this for the past 3 years and were told to prepare. Ukraine is assisting Moldova with their supply issues internally though. Ukraine is also confirming they’re sending 500 Tonnes of aid to the new Syrian Government
Surprise surprise, we’re now two weeks into the Trump Presidency and he hasn’t stopped the war. Reports are though, that Putin is firmly implanting his lips on Trump’s arse. Perhaps aware that Trump loves people that kiss his arse…
Trump has indicated that aid to Ukraine could continue if Ukraine agrees to supply the US with Rare Earth. Ukraine hasn’t ruled this out, they are however restructuring their army at the moment and will be creating Corps.
In other news, North Korea has rotated their troops from Kursk after suffering horrendous losses. Most of their troops were ordered to die rather than be captured, plus they were found to be using basic human wave tactics. There’s talk of about 40% dead, wounded, captured or missing. Considering they haven’t been there that long, it’s pretty huge.
The founder of a pro-russian militia group in Eastern Ukraine, Armen Sarkisyan has died after a bomb exploded in his apartment in Moscow. He formed militia groups in the hope of being a counterpoint to Wagner and a second option.
Saw Zelenskyy interviewed recently too where he was saying they’d received approx 76 billion worth of material aid - not the 177 billion that keeps being quoted. That he has no idea about the rest of it - but did see some mention of the bigger number including other tangential costs like increased US troop numbers in Europe, additional costs to restock US arsenals, transport costs & the like.
Depends on how you look at it as well. Poland is technically the biggest aid provider to Ukraine, but you need to count the assistance given to Ukrainian refugees etc. At the same time, there definitely has been a huge lag between promised and signed assistance vs what has actually been received. Some of it will be due to the need to outfit mothballed equipment or ammo production as well. I can’t see America giving them Bradleys, Strikers or M1A1s from the current active stock. They’d be bringing a fair few out of storage. Im sure there’s also some cases where Republican’s have tried to slow the movement of aid.
