Yep we are going to get destroyed in this match unfortunately. We really need to do something about our batting lineup
Given the way our batting standards have declined, should Cricket Australia implement a minimum age and/or minimum number of Sheffield Shield/First Class games a player has to play before they can sign for a T20 franchise?
For example, if you’re under 23 then you should have to have played 15 SS/FC matches before you can be selected for T20.
Our young batsmen aren’t being taught how to dig in and build an innings, they’re only learning to dominate the bowler on a flat track. The moment there’s a little bit of seam movement or irregular bounce then they look no better than a club cricketer. It needs to change.
T20 is where most players make their living now I guess, if you were restricting what formats players can and can’t play, you would need to pay the same or more.
Young Guys play a hell of a lot more Cricket (of all forms) than you’d expect. They’re playing 11+ months a year.
T20 is the worst thing about cricket.
Yeah the good young players that I know here will play 3 or 4 games a week depending on what type.
Has AB had some health problems? Sounds like he’s 12 deep.
Yeah, Parkinsons, diagnosed in 2016.
They may be playing cricket but in what form?
Most tournaments are One Day or T20 format. The amount of long format cricket that they’re playing is dwindling year on year.
Gone are the days that our promising young players spend a few seasons playing in England. They’re now making money playing in 3rd rate T20 competitions.
More than happy for Cricket Australia to up the prize money for Sheffield Shield at the expense of the One Day and T20 formats.
The issue is where is the money coming from?
The last shield game I went to at the SCG there was more staff than fans in attendance
Thing is, who in our batting lineup deserves there spot on recent form? Khawaja maybe? Certainly not Marnus or Smith.
Actually heard on the radio that Head has only one score over 50 in his last 17 innings. Maybe Marsh cos he bowls a bit? It looks terribly grim. Thing is this rabble barely got the job done against Pakistan and the windies last summer, it should come as no surprise they cant cut it against Bumrah and co.
Hope they turn it around and prove me wrong but i really cant see it.
The Indians are now batting like its a test match… valuing their wickets and only trying to play shots against a poor delivery.
When was this?
Cricket Australia has devalued Sheffield Shield cricket so much it is now played on suburban parks.
One day, two day games for premier grade and lots of T20.
And that’s the problem. We’re raising a bunch of batsmen who aren’t exposed to long form cricket.
It won’t be long and our bowlers won’t be capable of bowling line and length because they’re being told to bowl variations.
80 over innings is long form cricket though
2 day cricket used to be 90 overs.
The point is the longer formats are being shortened to fit more shorter format games in.
I don’t think we have players with enough technique or discipline to pull off a day that the Indians did today or like Dravid and Laxman did at will.
Poor McSweeney, half tracker hits below the knee roll
Well that was optimistic
